The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman 1395

 Chapter 1395

“Haaah….”

Runaan dropped to her knees before Archangel Ramiel’s corpse. She had only approached Ramiel and swung her sword once, yet she was panting heavily as though all the strength had drained from her body.

“My body….”

Runaan tried to rise on trembling legs, but her arms and legs refused to obey her, as though she had been completely exhausted.

“Stay there….”

Sloth lightly pressed down on Runaan’s shoulder, telling her to remain still.

“Even though you possess the authority of sloth… you were inside my domain… so of course you are exhausted….”

He slowly nodded, saying it was only natural for Runaan to be struggling.

“I see….”

Runaan blinked as though she finally understood.

“My body… did feel strange….”

She looked at her trembling hand, saying that after Sloth handed things over to her, her body had begun moving on its own.

“So you helped me….”

Realizing that Sloth had helped her, Runaan bowed her head.

“No….”

Sloth slowly lowered his chin.

“It wasn’t… me….”

He closed his eyes and opened them again, saying that Runaan, not he, had done it.

“The <Sloth> you built up as your own is what guided you.”

Sloth yawned as he explained that the authority of sloth Runaan had developed had given her strength.

“My own <Sloth>….”

Seemingly pleased by those words, Runaan raised the corners of her lips by an almost imperceptible amount.

“Mmhh!”

Hearing screams coming from another direction, she forced herself to her feet. It seemed that she had recovered some of her stamina by now.

“Where are you going…?”

Sloth lay down on the ground with a yawn, as though preparing to sleep.

“I have to help….”

Runaan blinked as though wondering why he was asking something so obvious.

“What about you?”

“…….”

Sloth stared blankly at Runaan for a moment before letting out a faint laugh.

“I’m going to rest….”

“Okay….”

Runaan blinked once more before running back toward the battlefield. Her unsteady steps gradually began returning to their usual rhythm.

“So that’s what it was….”

Sloth curled his lips into a smile as he watched Runaan cut down the celestials while running toward the others.

“Now I understand why her Sloth turned out that way….”

He had told Runaan to finish Ramiel, but he had not truly expected her to do it. She was not strong enough on her own, so he had intended to support her with the authority of sloth, yet Runaan had sentenced Archangel Ramiel to death with her own power. He was glad that it had saved him the trouble, but he had found it strange. Now, he finally understood the reason.

“That girl’s… Sloth….”

Sloth gave a faint chuckle as he pulled the blanket Raon had given him over himself.

“It was a kind sloth….”

Runaan loved sleep almost as much as he did, but there was something she cherished even more. It seemed that those feelings of hers had transformed the authority of <Sloth> into a new power.

“Even in devildom… it would be hard to find… talent this exceptional… Haaahm….”

Sloth opened his mouth in a long yawn as drowsiness seemed to set in while he was evaluating Runaan.

“You can take your time….”

He slowly closed his eyes, mixing the authority of <Sloth> into his voice so that Runaan could hear him.

“Because you… will be able to reach that….”

*   *   *

The western edge of the battlefield was quiet.

Flames of different colors churned in the sky, tremors that shook the earth continued from another dimension, and gold ingots rained down in the east, yet the west remained utterly still.

The one creating that atmosphere was Archangel Sariel, who stood with her eight wings neatly folded. Her calm yet heavy presence made everything so quiet that it felt as though the entire area had sunk beneath the water.

“Waaah!”

Evelyn let out an exaggerated cry to break the silence.

“Did you feel that just now? Looks like one of your comrades died?”

She curled her lips into a smile, apparently sensing that Runaan had killed Archangel Ramiel.

“That’s right. One head has already been cut off.”

Lust, the Monarch of Lust, responded to Evelyn with a seductive smile.

“Looks like this war doesn’t have much longer left.”

She appeared to be speaking casually, but she had infused her voice with the authority of <Lust> to provoke Archangel Sariel.

“…….”

Archangel Sariel maintained a calm expression despite Evelyn and Lust’s mockery. She merely stood in place, like a doll incapable of even feeling the death of a comrade.

“Are you deaf?”

Evelyn frowned as she met Sariel’s gaze.

“No.”

Lust shook her head while looking into Sariel’s eyes.

“She’s observing us right now.”

She gave a faint laugh when she noticed Sariel’s eyes turning toward her.

“She’s quite capable for someone who only recently received the name Sariel.”

Lust narrowed her eyes, showing that Sariel was not someone she could take lightly.

“It’s hard to believe she was so shaken by Raon earlier. No, even that may have been an act.”

She clicked her tongue as she looked at the wound on her waist. She had suffered it when she attacked an agitated Sariel only to be counterattacked instead, so there was no way she could underestimate her.

“That one….”

Lust took a short breath as she looked into Sariel’s tranquil eyes.

“It looks like she doesn’t have any emotions.”

“Then what was that reaction earlier?”

Evelyn abruptly turned her head. She narrowed her eyes as she recalled how Sariel had been shocked by Raon’s actions.

“An act.”

Lust casually waved her hand.

“Even my authority of <Lust> has no effect on her.”

She clicked her tongue, saying that her ability to charm anyone regardless of age or gender was having no effect at all.

“Then that’s a bad matchup for you.”

Evelyn nodded while rubbing her smooth chin.

“Want me to handle her?”

She licked her lips, offering to fight at the front herself.

“No.”

Lust swept back her pink hair, looking more excited instead.

“She’s actually a good matchup for me.”

“A good… matchup?”

Evelyn tilted her head in confusion.

“Having no emotions doesn’t mean she has no weaknesses. It means she lacks experience. And with little experience, her ability to deal with dangerous situations would be lacking as well.”

Lust smiled brightly, looking confident that she could defeat Archangel Sariel without much difficulty.

“You may be right.”

Evelyn rounded her lips, as though she had never considered it from that angle.

“Now that you’ve learned something, give him up.”

Lust pointed toward the flames raging in the sky, as though telling Evelyn to give Raon up to her.

“Absolutely not!”

Evelyn snorted, declaring she would rather give up her soul than hand over Raon.

“Fine. We’ll continue that discussion after we bring her down.”

Lust beckoned to Evelyn with a finger as though speaking to an old friend.

“All right, then….”

Evelyn smiled as she raised her left hand and lowered her right, forming a circle with both hands.

“I’ll go first.”

Blue light rose from Evelyn’s hands, and dozens of copies of her appeared. It was illusion magic meant to confuse Archangel Sariel.

Wooooong!

Evelyn did not stop with the illusion magic. She turned her left hand in the opposite direction and cast an ice spell that fired ten spears of ice.

Whoooooosh!

Because the dozens of Evelyns created by the illusion spell launched the ice spears at the same time, hundreds of spears shot toward Sariel all at once.

“…Finished.”

An eerie light flashed in Sariel’s eyes, and golden beams erupted from her wings, piercing through every one of Evelyn’s clones as they launched their ice spears.

Fwaaaaaah!

As the clones vanished, the ice spells they had fired also disappeared like snow melting away.

Booooom!

Evelyn’s true body blocked Sariel’s light with defensive magic, but the force behind it seemed considerable, making her entire body shake violently.

“That wooden statue….”

She clenched her trembling hand into a fist and glared at Sariel, who still stood exactly as she had at the beginning.

“I can see it.”

Sariel looked down at Evelyn with emotionless eyes.

“The flow of your mana, the movements of your muscles, even the beating of your heart. Everything about you is information available to me.”

She gave a slight nod, as though she had already analyzed everything about Evelyn.

“Hah?”

One of Evelyn’s eyebrows twitched.

“You can see the flow of my mana, the movements of my muscles, even the beating of my heart? Fine! Try it again!”

Twisting her lips, she brought her hands together in the same position and condensed her mana.

“…….”

Sariel’s dark, sunken eyes moved as though she were trying to grasp everything about Evelyn once again.

But Evelyn’s magic surged up like lightning before Sariel could discern its flow.

Boooom!

Sariel managed to turn aside, but Evelyn’s magic, propelled by the elastic force of deeply compressed mana, sliced narrowly across her waist as it passed.

“Hmph!”

Evelyn flicked her hand as though she had expected that result.

“The flow of mana, the movements of muscles, and even the beating of the heart can all be changed.”

She smiled, saying that she had altered the movements of her heart and muscles with mana.

“…I understand.”

Sariel calmly nodded without paying any attention to the wound on her waist.

“Understand?”

Evelyn’s expression twisted further in displeasure.

“Just understanding it won’t be enough.”

She approached Sariel, saying that she would keep changing her condition and asking what Sariel intended to do about it.

“Hm….”

Despite her title as the Monarch of Lust, Lust did not step forward. She quietly watched the battle between Evelyn and Sariel.

Wooooong!

When Evelyn snapped her fingers in front of Sariel, brilliant light burst through the air and obscured her vision.

Fwaaaaaah!

After blinding Sariel with light magic, Evelyn brought down countless fire, ice, and lightning spells at staggered intervals. It was the magical bombardment she was most confident in.

But even after being hit by Evelyn’s light spell, Sariel calmly raised her eyes as though it had not affected her at all and looked at the spells pouring down toward her.

Baaaaang!

With only two beams of light emerging from two of her wings, Sariel pierced through the entire magical bombardment Evelyn had unleashed. Because she destroyed the very cores of the spells, they all exploded in midair before they could even reach the ground.

“W-What….”

Evelyn’s eyes widened in shock as the entire bombardment exploded before all of the spells had even fallen. Her magical bombardments had been blocked many times before, but this was the first time one had ever been completely countered like this, leaving her visibly shaken.

“…I’m not done yet!”

Evelyn was preparing another bombardment with new spells while simultaneously setting up a surprise attack that would burst from underground.

“I’ve figured you out.”

Sariel finished with those brief words and spread her wings. Light fell from the sky, destroying both the magical bombardment Evelyn was launching and the spell she had prepared for the surprise attack.

“Huh….”

As Evelyn lowered her hands, her eyes trembling in confusion, another beam of Sariel’s light shot toward her chest.

Craaaaash!

Just as Sariel’s light was about to pierce through Evelyn’s chest, a silver-glowing sword shot up and knocked away the flash of divine power.

“I’ve figured you out too.”

Lust curled her red lips into a seductive smile worthy of the Monarch of Lust.

“To a doll of heaven pretending to have no emotions….”

She crooked a finger while meeting Sariel’s tranquil gaze.

“I’ll teach you what fear is.”
