The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman 1389
Chapter 1389
[It’s the Monarch of <Envy>!]
[No, it’s not just the Monarch of Envy! All of the Demon Kings have descended!]
[Th-The Archangels are being pushed back….]
[H-How did they descend while retaining the full power of their true bodies?]
[That doesn’t matter right now! Everyone, retreat!]
The dragons had seen every one of their kin who emerged ahead of them have their necks snapped by Envy, the Monarch of Envy, and hurried back into the dimension in terror. They rolled their enormous eyes from within the dimensional gate as though waiting for an opportunity, but did not reveal themselves.
“Huh? They ran away already?”
Envy let out a hollow laugh as she lightly shook the hand coursing with the authority of envy.
“Mediators of the continent? Those winged lizards sure have gotten full of themselves.”
She sneered as though the dragons were nothing more than insects.
“Well, with that scheming Dragon Lord dead, I suppose it’s no surprise the lizards have turned into a disorganized rabble.”
Envy clicked her tongue as she recalled the Dragon Lord.
“Come to think of it, the only reason this ridiculous war is still going on is because of that damn bastard.”
The corner of her mouth twisted upward as she watched Raon hold his ground against Archangel Uriel without yielding an inch.
“Hmm….”
Envy took her eyes off Raon and Uriel and looked up at the dimension where the dragons were hiding.
“So they really aren’t coming out?”
Envy stared at the sky as though expecting the dragons to emerge, but contrary to her hopes, they did not show themselves again.
“Haa, boring.”
Envy yawned as though bored and shook her head.
“If you’re bored, why don’t you just beat them all to death?”
Martha approached Envy’s side and tilted her chin.
“You’ve got plenty of power to spare anyway.”
She seemed to be provoking Envy in order to reduce the casualties suffered by the Five Kings Alliance.
“I have played with them enough.”
Envy waved her hand as though telling Martha to stop.
“Besides, I need to conserve my strength for Michael.”
She smacked her lips, saying that she needed to preserve her authority for her battle against Archangel Michael.
“Though honestly, it would be best if he didn’t come out at all.”
Envy furrowed her brow slightly, seemingly reluctant to fight Archangel Michael.
“Archangel Michael?”
Martha tilted her head.
“Is he that strong?”
Her eyes widened as though she found it hard to believe that Envy, who treated dragons like mere lizards, was wary of an Archangel.
“He is. Even judging by might alone, he’s a monster who stands among the very strongest Archangels.”
Envy let out a heavy breath before continuing.
“But that isn’t the only reason he’s troublesome.”
“Does he have some special ability?”
Martha smacked her lips with curiosity.
“Yeah. A very nasty one.”
Envy shook her head, saying that Michael’s particular ability made her want to avoid clashing with him.
“In terms of matchup, <Pride> would be better suited to fighting him than I am. Of course, with <Wrath> here, Pride won’t come out.”
She narrowed her eyes as she looked at the Death Sword Spirit, who had been captured by Karoon.
“Unless something very unusual happens, that is.”
* * *
Kiiiiiiing!
The Black Form Snake’s sword shot forward while producing a bizarre sword cry like the wail of a ghost. It was an illusion sword that dulled a person’s senses by deceiving them with light and sound, but its speed and sharpness were anything but ordinary.
Kuuuuuuung!
Ogram shattered the sinister flow of the Black Form Snake’s sword with nothing more than a firm stomp, then thrust out his tightly clenched fist.
“Keugh!”
The Black Form Snake bit his lip and swung his sword again, but Ogram’s left fist flew toward him first.
Baaaaam!
The Black Form Snake was struck in the chest by Ogram’s fist and sent flying like a stone kicked across the ground, rolling several times before coming to a stop.
“Keuuugh!”
This time, he seemed to have taken a heavy blow, coughing up blood as he gasped for breath.
“Th-This makes no sense.”
The Black Form Snake ground his teeth as though unable to accept the situation.
“You’re not even Raon Zieghart, so why am I losing to someone like you!”
He swung his sword fiercely, showing that he had never even considered the possibility of being defeated by Ogram.
Claaaaang!
Even though both his mind and body were shaken, the Black Form Snake thrust out a vicious sword strike. Cold sweat ran down Ogram’s back at the razor-sharp attack, one capable of taking his head the moment he let his guard down.
“Kahahahaha!”
But Ogram was the King of Beasts who had brought countless tribes to their knees and even suppressed the White Blood Religion’s leader’s bloody energy. Rather than retreating from danger, he plunged straight into it, knocked the Black From Snake’s sword aside, and drove his fist up into his chin.
Crack!
With the sound of bones breaking, the Black Form Snake’s body rose into the air. All strength seemed to leave him as even the sword in his hand slipped free, and he collapsed as though unconscious.
“You….”
The Black Form Snake parted his lips, seemingly still conscious, but he had no strength to rise and could only cough up blood without moving.
Thud!
Ogram raised fingers thicker than a sword blade and tapped the Black Form Snake’s body. It was a Beast Union technique that used aura to suppress an opponent’s mana circuits.
“Uugh….”
The Black Form Snake felt as though his body had been bound with ropes, unable to move even slightly. He barely managed to shift his eyes toward Ogram.
“Wh-What is this?”
His lips trembled as though asking why Ogram was leaving him like this.
“Raon told me not to kill you.”
Ogram dusted off his hands while sitting on top of the Black Form Snake.
“It was that child’s request, so I should honor it.”
He smacked his lips, saying that he would not kill the Black Form Snake because of Raon.
“Khehehe!”
The Black Form Snake laughed, his fear seeming to disappear at Ogram’s words.
“So even you have no choice in the end!”
Now certain that he would not die, he began acting boldly again.
“You call yourself one of the heads of the Five Kings and all that, but in the end, you’re nothing more than Raon Zieghart’s servant!”
The Black Form Snake cackled as he provoked Ogram.
‘I’ll definitely win if we fight again!’
Ogram swung his fists with enough killing intent to make it seem as though he truly meant to smash me apart and kill me. The memory of the moment Raon Zieghart tried to kill me resurfaced, and that fear kept me from displaying my full ability.
But now that I’m certain Ogram won’t kill me, that fear is gone. Once the aura restraint weighing down my entire body is lifted, I can kill that barbarian if we fight again.
“Eight Great Demon!”
The Black Form Snake called out to the Eight Great Demon, who was nowhere to be seen from where he lay.
“Save me! If I fight him again….”
Just as he rolled his eyes around, searching for the Eight Great Demon—
Baaaaam!
The Eight Great Demon fell backward, his right arm severed as cleanly as though it had been cut by a blade.
“Unnhh….”
He bit his lip as though he had not expected to suffer such an injury.
“To think they were this strong….”
The Eight Great Demon narrowed his eyes as he looked between Ogram and Chamber.
“I misjudged them completely.”
He let out a low breath, seemingly surprised by Ogram and Chamber’s might, which was far beyond what he had expected.
“It’s true that we were weakened, just as your information said.”
Chamber twisted her lips upward as she threw the Eight Great Demon’s blood-dripping arm onto the ground.
“But even if we got weaker, we could just recover again. No, we could simply become even stronger.”
She flicked her hand, saying that although they had weakened, they had grown through grueling effort.
Baaaaam!
The Eight Great Demon did not seem to sense Chamber’s magic at all. He only moved after a chunk of flesh had already been gouged from his waist.
“Uhggh….”
He deeply furrowed his brow as he clutched his waist, where flesh had been torn away and blood and entrails were spilling out.
“Eight Great Demon! I told you to save me!”
The Black Form Snake screamed at the Eight Great Demon to save him.
“Huu….”
Just as the Eight Great Demon flashed a cold gaze and tried to approach the Black Form Snake—
“You have quite the vicious look in your eyes.”
Ogram narrowed his eyes and blocked the Eight Great Demon’s path.
“You don’t look like you’re trying to save this bastard. You look like you’re trying to kill him.”
He snorted, saying that he could see right through the Eight Great Demon’s intentions.
“No one told us to keep you alive, so killing you should be fine, right?”
Chamber chewed on her lollipop as she looked at the Eight Great Demon.
“Chamber, the Archmage of Eternal Flame.”
The Eight Great Demon brought his hands together as he spoke Chamber’s title.
Baaaaam!
Blood exploded from the wounds covering his entire body, and red, writhing tentacles burst out.
“I shall place a curse of blood upon you.”
The Eight Great Demon traced a curse formation with the blood tentacles, his eyes gleaming coldly.
“A blood curse….”
Chamber curled her lips upward as she listened to the Eight Great Demon.
“Then I’ll place a curse of space upon you.”
The moment she brought her hands together just as the Eight Great Demon had—
Baaaaam!
Without even the slightest ripple of mana, the helmet and head atop the Eight Great Demon’s body disappeared.
Rumble….
Even though the Eight Great Demon was possessing the power of the Kraken, he apparently could not move after losing his head. He collapsed where he stood as a horrifying amount of blood gushed from the neck where his head had vanished. The grotesquely writhing blood tentacles also went limp as though all strength had left them.
“Haa….”
Chamber lowered her trembling hands and swallowed the blood that had risen to her mouth.
‘Fortunately, I finished it in time.’
Just as the Eight Great Demon said, I’ve grown weaker, and just as I said, I’ve also grown stronger. I’ve grasped the profound essence of magic, but the aftereffects still haven’t completely disappeared, so I can’t fight for long.
I was worried when the Eight Great Demon revealed his true form because his combative energy was so powerful, but fortunately, I managed to finish him off before he could display his true ability.
“Haah….”
The Black Form Snake’s lips trembled as though he could not believe the Eight Great Demon was dead.
“He inherited the Kraken’s power! He shouldn’t die like this!”
He shook his head, shouting that it made no sense.
“What’s so strange about it?”
Chamber shrugged and stuck out her tongue, bits of candy still clinging to it.
“We originally stood on the same level as your leader.”
She planted her foot on the Black Form Snake’s head as though telling the brat not to get cocky.
“The Heavenly Demon is indeed strong. As I am now, I cannot defeat him. However….”
Ogram looked down at the Black Form Snake with a heavy smile.
“You are not the Heavenly Demon. Do not rely on his might to uphold your own sense of self.”
With those words, he brought his fist down on the Black Form Snake’s head.
“Ah….”
With his body completely immobilized, the Black Form Snake could not put up even the slightest resistance and lost consciousness.
“Our role is finished for now.”
Saying that their mission was complete, Chamber levitated the unconscious Black Form Snake into the air and hid him within her own space.
“No.”
Ogram slammed his fists together in front of his chest and let out a beastlike grin.
“My fight is only beginning!”
As though proving those words true, he charged back onto the battlefield and swung his rock-like fists. He had suffered numerous wounds from the Black Form Snake’s sword, but he did not seem to care about them at all.
“That’s not a human. He’s a bison. No, he’s practically a whole herd of bison.”
Chamber shook her head as she watched Ogram unleash explosive fist strikes the moment he reentered the battlefield.
“This side is mostly taken care of now….”
She twisted up the corner of her mouth as she looked beyond the endless stream of approaching monsters.
“I wonder who’s going to handle that side?”
* * *
“This is absurd….”
The Secluded Hermit sighed as he touched the mask fashioned in the likeness of the World Tree.
“To think the Black Form Snake and the Eight Great Demon were defeated so easily….”
He blinked several times as though unable to believe that Ogram and Chamber had defeated the Black Form Snake and the Eight Great Demon.
“Even looking at it again, the Black Form Snake and the Eight Great Demon are superior in might and stamina.”
It would be a different story if the heads of the Five Kings had been uninjured, but those two suffered severe injuries and even considered retirement. I have no idea what they did to recover such formidable might.
“And on top of that….”
The Secluded Hermit narrowed his eyes as he looked to the left.
“To think the Death Sword Spirit would fall to Karoon Zieghart….”
The Death Sword Spirit is a swordswoman who inherited the Heavenly Demon’s martial arts through her prodigious talent. If she continues growing at this rate, it wouldn’t be strange for her to become the next head of Eden. And yet she was defeated by Karoon Zieghart, someone I had never even considered. I can’t help but feel shaken.
‘Every part of the plan is falling apart.’
I was completely helpless against Raon Zieghart. The Death Sword Spirit fell to Karoon Zieghart. The Black Form Snake and the Eight Great Demon were brought down by old-timers who had practically retired. And even the Archangels are being held back by the Demon Kings.
‘It would have been better if they had died….’
If either the Death Sword Spirit or the Black Form Snake had died, Pride would have emerged or Hydra would have been released, completely overturning the balance of the battlefield.
‘In the end….’
The Secluded Hermit bit his lip and brought his hands together.
‘I have no choice but to do it myself.’
I left command of the battlefield to the Death Sword Spirit while I focused on recovering from the wound Raon Zieghart inflicted on my soul, but it seems I have no choice but to act now.
‘I need to coordinate with the celestials. Once they use their abilities to bewitch the humans, I can send in the monsters and executives and steer the course of the battle in our favor.’
The situation has indeed developed in an unexpected direction, but the war has only just begun, and we still have plenty of forces remaining. If I move according to the new strategy I’ve devised, I can turn the course of the battle in our favor.
‘And it would be good to deal with the Black Form Snake as well.’
Cleanly.
‘Raon Zieghart can no longer stop me.’
Just as the Secluded Hermit sent tree roots down beneath his feet, seemingly intending to target the Black Form Snake, his fellow member of Eden—
Craaaaaack!
The massive monsters that had been concealing the Secluded Hermit compressed into small masses before bursting apart without spilling a single drop of blood. Above them, a beautiful blue-eyed woman with blonde hair swaying at her waist descended on a green wind like a goddess descending from the heavens.
“So you really were here, just as Raon said.”
Larian, the master of the Magic Tower and the mage who had reached the pinnacle of magic in the current era, looked down at the Secluded Hermit.
“I’m your opponent.”
She raised her chin haughtily, as though there were no need for him to look anywhere else.
“I’ve finished my research.”
