The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman 1388

 Chapter 1388

WHOOOOOOSH!

At the summit of Veron Mountain. No, the land could no longer even be called a mountain, reduced as it was to a low hill where pure white smoke billowed endlessly into the air. It resembled clouds that had lingered around a mountaintop and failed to return to the sky in time.

Within the tidal wave of smoke rising all the way to the heavens, the silhouettes of three people slowly came into view.

On the left stood an elderly swordsman in a black uniform, his sword lowered as he maintained a composure so serene that he looked as though he were simply having tea. On the right stood a huge man wearing a dark crimson dragon helmet, his eyes twisted to a chilling degree as he struggled to contain his rage. In the center, a blind man wearing a black eyepatch grinned as he wiped the blood trailing from the corner of his mouth.

The three shook out their fists and swords, where traces of aura still lingered, as though they had only moments ago unleashed their respective martial arts against one another.

“What do you think!”

The blind swordsman, Darkan, the former master of the Holy Sword Alliance and the man known as the Dark Night Sword God, curled his lips into a crooked grin.

“At this level, I’m good enough to join your fight, aren’t I?”

As though demanding not to be left out, he tightened his grip on his sword until veins bulged across the back of his hand.

"I will kill you later, and..."

The Heavenly Demon, the head of Eden who wore the dark-red dragon helmet, ground his teeth hard enough for the sound of bone to be heard.

“I told you to stay out of this, didn’t I?”

He made no attempt to hide his deep anger toward Darkan, who refused to back down even after being told to leave.

“Later?”

Darkan wiped the blood from his lips with his thumb.

“You were the one who came later! I was first!”

He gave the Heavenly Demon a crooked smile.

“Isn’t that right?”

Darkan shrugged at Glenn, urging him to say it himself.

“That is true.”

Glenn looked at Darkan with calm eyes.

“He was the first to make a promise with me to fight.”

He nodded, acknowledging that Darkan had challenged him to a duel before his duel with the Heavenly Demon was arranged.

“Kuhuhung!”

As though emboldened by Glenn taking his side, Darkan’s grin widened.

“Khmm….”

The Heavenly Demon let out a heavy groan, clearly not expecting Glenn to say that.

“Glenn Zieghart! Did you not enjoy fighting me!”

He bit his lip, demanding to know why Glenn was taking the side of the man who had interrupted their fight.

“I did.”

Glenn slowly closed his eyes and opened them again.

“It was an enjoyment that made me realize why I have trained with the sword all this time.”

He smiled faintly, saying that through fighting the Heavenly Demon, he had discovered the true joy of fighting with the sword.

“Then why!”

“I told you that he really did have the prior arrangement.”

Glenn lowered his hand, saying that it was no lie that Darkan had asked to fight him first.

“There’s no point arguing! I was first, and you….”

“However.”

Glenn cut off Darkan as he eagerly jumped into the conversation.

“I never promised Darkan when we would fight.”

Glenn turned toward Darkan with subdued eyes.

“So in the end, the agreement for today’s duel to the death with him takes precedence.”

He calmly gestured toward the Heavenly Demon with his chin. His expression showed that he did not care which of them he fought.

“Uh, uh….”

Darkan swallowed dryly, seemingly not expecting Glenn to say that.

“Just as I thought!”

The Heavenly Demon clapped his hands and exclaimed, as though he had known Glenn would say that.

“You heard him. Now get lost!”

The Heavenly Demon waved his hand repeatedly, telling Darkan to hurry up and leave. He looked as though he wanted to kill Darkan immediately but was holding back because he did not want to waste his strength.

“Absolutely not!”

Even after hearing Glenn’s words, Darkan raised his trembling lips, refusing to back down.

“I want to fight Glenn Zieghart while he’s still fresh and in fighting shape too!”

Instead, he stepped forward.

“Once this fight ends, one of you two will be dead, and the one left alive will be a wreck!”

Darkan thrust out his chest, making it clear that he would not back down even if he died here. His stance practically said, “Go ahead and gut me.”

“You vermin.”

Unable to endure it any longer, the Heavenly Demon thrust out a fist condensed with combative energy. Dark-red combative energy poured out like mist, distorting the space in front of Darkan’s chest. It was a fist strike that would crush his chest and kill him instantly if he failed to block it.

Claaaaang!

Darkan snorted and lightly turned his sword. His black blade bent into a faint blur as it knocked aside the Heavenly Demon’s fist strike that had been warping space.

“Heh!”

Darkan wiped the blood running from his lips with the back of his hand and lifted his chin.

“That won’t be enough.”

He beckoned with one hand, telling the Heavenly Demon to do it properly if he intended to kill him.

“Haa….”

The Heavenly Demon furrowed his brow at Darkan’s nonchalant attitude. He clearly wanted to kill him on the spot, but Darkan was no easy opponent, and taking him down would require a considerable expenditure of strength.

‘He’s become almost unrecognizable….’

Glenn narrowed his eyes as he watched Darkan taunt the Heavenly Demon.

‘He’s grown strong.’

The Darkan of the past was not at a level where he could even join this fight. It was more than simply being outmatched. The moment he stepped between me and the Heavenly Demon, his very existence would have been erased.

But the current Darkan went through many things and gained enlightenment, acquiring enough might to withstand a serious fist strike from the Heavenly Demon. Only Darkan is capable of inserting his swordsmanship into the clash between my martial arts and the Heavenly Demon’s and asserting his own will within it.

‘There was a reason Raon said he would grow stronger.’

Raon had said that Darkan was the reason he survived the fight against Uriel, and had confidently stated that Darkan would become even stronger afterward. Glenn had simply accepted it at the time, but seeing Darkan now, Raon had been right.

‘He overcame battles steeped in death and poured every insight he gained through his bizarre training into his swordsmanship.’

To comprehend the Heart Sword, Darkan had gouged out his own eyes. He had become a beggar and placed himself at the lowest rung of society in order to understand the hearts of people, and he had willingly thrown himself into battles where death was a real possibility. Considering everything he had done until now, there was nothing particularly strange about his dazzling growth.

‘He’s not someone I can bring myself to dislike.’

Darkan was a man who devoted everything he had to training with the sword, so as another person walking the same path of the sword, Glenn could not bring himself to hate him.

‘And besides….’

“Glenn Zieghart!”

As Glenn finished sorting through his thoughts about Darkan, the Heavenly Demon stepped forward, chewing hard on his lip.

“What are you going to do!”

He ground his teeth as though demanding to know whether Glenn truly intended to let Darkan intrude upon this sacred duel to the death duel.

“….”

Glenn calmly looked from Darkan to the Heavenly Demon.

“He says he intends to join in. What am I supposed to do about it?”

He shrugged, as though he intended to let Darkan do as he pleased.

“What….”

The Heavenly Demon’s jaw trembled at Glenn’s unexpected answer.

“As expected, you’re the only one who understands me! Glenn Zieghart!”

Darkan cheered in delight and waved his sword.

“In my own way….”

Glenn slightly curled his lips as he watched Darkan smile.

‘I owe him.’

Raon had said that he survived his fight against Uriel thanks to Darkan. Glenn wanted to give a little of his time to the man who had saved his grandson, in repayment for that debt.

“I don’t care which of you it is.”

Glenn nodded calmly and raised Heavenly Tremor, lightning flowing along its blade.

“Come.”

He arrogantly raised his chin as though he intended to face the martial arts of both the Heavenly Demon and Darkan by himself.

"Kuhahahaha! Good!"

Darkan burst into wild laughter and raised his sword.

“Now that’s the Sword God, Glenn Zieghart!”

Acknowledging Glenn as the Sword God, he thrust out his sword as a magnificent aura blazed around it.

“Damn it!”

For the first time, the Heavenly Demon screamed in rage and kicked off the ground. His eyes blazing scarlet, he drove his fist strike between Glenn’s sword and Darkan’s sword.

*   *   *

Kwoooooooong!

The people on the battlefield continued their respective battles without even sparing a glance toward Veron mountain to the west, where tremendous explosions and tremors were erupting.

“Is this all you’ve got!”

Beast King Ogram twisted his lips as he launched a fist wreathed in dense aura.

“If you intend to defeat this Beast King, put everything you have into it!”

Shouting that it was nowhere near enough, he unleashed a barrage of fist strikes across the Black Form Snake’s entire body.

Kugugugugugugu!

The Black Form Snake bit deeply into his lip and rapidly whirled his sword, knocking away Ogram’s fist strikes. However, the damage was clearly considerable, as the hand gripping his sword trembled violently.

“You old bastard who crawled back from death!”

The Black Form Snake ground his teeth and thrust out his sword, black currents rising from its blade.

Claaang!

Ogram struck the flat of the Black Form Snake’s sword with the back of his hand and knocked the sword strike aside. It was a defense that showed he had completely grasped the Black Form Snake’s swordsmanship.

“Y-you!”

The Black Form Snake glared and thrust his sword repeatedly, but Ogram knocked away every strike simply by lightly turning his massive fist.

Thuud!

Ogram did not stop at defending. He surged toward the Black Form Snake’s exposed left side and slammed a fist into his abdomen.

“Kuhaaagh!”

The Black Form Snake spat blood as he was sent flying and rolled across the ground.

“Haa….”

He had managed to bleed off some of the force of the blow, so he immediately got back to his feet, but he staggered backward with his jaw trembling as though he could not comprehend what had happened.

“H-how…?”

The Black Form Snake swallowed dryly, seemingly unable to believe that he was being pushed back by Ogram, whom he had expected to defeat without much difficulty.

“Want me to tell you why?”

Ogram gave a crooked smile and shook out the fist that had struck the Black Form Snake.

“Because all you ever think about is running away.”

He tilted his chin as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.

“A-all I think about is running away?”

The Black Form Snake furrowed his brow as though he did not understand what Ogram meant.

“What nonsense are you spouting!”

“Whenever you fight, you’re always thinking about retreating. There are those who evade attacks and fight strategically, but you’re different. Your first thought is always to run away so you can save your own life.”

Ogram sneered, saying that the Black Form Snake’s sword was certainly powerful, but because he was always thinking of retreating, he never properly put his strength into the sword.

“In other words….”

He narrowed his eyes and looked down at the Black Form Snake’s trembling hand.

“You are not a warrior.”

Ogram lowered his chin, making it clear that he did not consider the Black Form Snake a warrior.

“Ha! What nonsense!”

The Black Form Snake let out a thunderous roar, rushed at Ogram, and thrust his sword forward.

Booom!

The strike was fast, sharp, and carried heavy combative energy, but Ogram blocked the Black Form Snake’s sword strike without difficulty and even launched a powerful counterattack.

Thuuuud!

The Black Form Snake failed to properly block Ogram’s fist strike and was sent flying along with his sword, which bent as though it were about to snap.

“Y-you….”

As he planted a trembling hand on the ground and tried to rise, the Eight Great Demon crashed down right beside him and slammed into the ground.

“Ugh….”

The Eight Great Demon grabbed his octopus helmet and struggled to pull himself upright.

“Ha! You’re being pushed back too?”

The Black Executioner wrinkled his nose disdainfully.

“Our opponents are heads of the Five Kings.”

The Eight Great Demon let out a deep breath.

“They pretend to have weakened, but they’re monsters who keep growing stronger, so they are never easy opponents.”

He tightened his grip, saying that being pushed back was only natural.

“Of course!”

Chamber nodded as she raised a new lollipop.

“We’ve been fighting since before you brats were even grown.”

She muttered at them not to get cocky and put the lollipop into her mouth.

“Don’t get ahead of yourself.”

The Eight Great Demon looked up at the sky and exhaled a murky breath.

"Because the war has only just begun."

As he raised his gaze, declaring that it was not over yet, a new dimensional gate appeared in the sky.

Huge winged figures began emerging from within the dimensional gate.

Dragons.

The self-proclaimed mediators of the continent who had survived the war against Raon spread their enormous wings to prove their existence.

Kugugugugugu!

The dragons opened their jaws, revealing pitch-black throats. They looked ready to unleash their breath attacks and exterminate the humans.

Woooooong!

Just as the dragons prepared to unleash their breath attacks from high in the sky, as though mocking the humans below—

Shaaaaaa!

Energy that writhed like a green serpent shot upward like a bolt of lightning and coiled around the dragons’ necks.

Cruuunch!

The dragons struggled to break free from the green energy, but instead, the energy grew thicker and thicker until it finally snapped their necks where their Dragon Hearts were located.

“Ha…?”

The Eight Great Demon’s jaw trembled in disbelief as he turned toward the direction from which the green energy had surged.

“To expose your own weak points for me….”

The beautiful youth with neatly combed green hair lowered her hand with a sinister smile.

“Stupid lizards!”
