The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman 1358

 Chapter 1358

“New trait?”

Raon rounded his mouth as he looked at the message that popped up before his eyes.

‘Giving me a trait all of a sudden?’

After leaving Zieghart, he had sparred with warriors who were relatively weaker than him. It was called encouragement, but in a way, it had been no different from taking a leisurely trip around the continent. He had truly never imagined that he would receive a trait for it.

Wh-what is this?!

Wrath glared at the message as though he found it utterly absurd.

All this bastard did was go around twisting the arms and legs of some kids, so why are you giving him a reward!

He roared at the sky, saying that the system had truly lost its mind.

‘First….’

Raon shook his head as he grabbed the back of Wrath’s neck while he struggled.

‘Let’s see what comes out.’

It’s a good thing for you, so who cares?!

Wrath furrowed his brow, saying that he was too irritated to look at it.

The King of Essence’s bones and flesh are being torn apart, so you should know how awful he feels!

He ground his teeth, demanding that the reward be taken back immediately.

‘I’ll give it back later.’

Raon checked the reward message as he made a promise with no set time to fulfill it.

[A new trait, <Thread of Bonds>, is being created.]

‘What kind of trait is this?’

The name of the newly acquired trait was <Thread of Bonds>. Unlike the traits I had obtained so far, it was difficult to predict its effect from its name alone.

‘I’ll have to check.’

Raon calmly caught his breath before bringing up the trait’s information.

<Thread of Bonds>

This is a trait with no rank. The trait’s ability will be unlocked when the conditions are fulfilled.

‘It has no rank?’

Raon’s eyes widened as he read the description of <Thread of Bonds>.

‘And it hasn’t even been unlocked yet?’

He had thought that its effect could be different since the way he obtained the <Thread of Bonds> trait was unlike anything he had experienced before, but this was completely beyond his expectations.

Puhahaha!

Wrath burst into mocking laughter as he watched Raon’s bewilderment.

It’s a trait that has nothing in it!

He sneered, saying that Raon would never be able to unlock the <Thread of Bonds> trait.

‘No.’

Raon slowly shook his head as he reread the messages from the beginning.

‘I think I know. How to use that trait.’

At first, he had been bewildered because, just as Wrath said, it seemed to have nothing at all.

[Many bonds have engraved you into their hearts and souls.]

[A new trait, <Thread of Bonds>, is being created.]

But after checking the messages again, he had a sense of how he could unlock that trait.

Hey, d-don’t lie!

Wrath snorted, saying that someone as bad at reading the room as Raon couldn’t possibly know that.

If you’re so confident, then unlock that trait right now!

His lips trembled slightly as he challenged Raon to unlock the trait right in front of him. Despite his words, he seemed worried that Raon really would unlock the trait.

‘Unfortunately, I can’t do that right now.’

Raon firmly shook his head.

‘It’ll open naturally in the future.’

He said that even though he wanted to unlock it now, he could not, then closed his eyes before opening them again.

‘And this trait is going to be truly special.’

Hmph! What a bluff!

Wrath twisted his lips upward, apparently deciding that Raon was unable to unlock the trait.

The King of Essence knows perfectly well that you can’t unlock that trait even though you want to!

He snorted, saying that he could see right through Raon.

The King of Essence knew it from the moment he saw the trait was called <Thread of Bonds>! The name itself is so vague that even its meaning is unclear, and its ability is obviously going to be just as vague!

Wrath clicked his tongue, apparently thinking he had finally found something to mock Raon over after a long time.

If you’re going to give him something, then give him a proper trait or some stats. Something like that is worse than giving him nothing at all!

He chuckled, saying that if the system was going to give Raon a reward, it should have given him stats or a trait suited to a warrior instead of giving him something like that.

No, that’s not it. Maybe the system is finally coming to its senses?

It was at that moment that Wrath waved his hand at the system as though telling it to keep doing things this way.

[Permission from <Wrath> has been granted.]

[All stats have increased by 10 points.]

[A new trait, <Overlapping Counterattack>, is being created.]

[The rank of the trait < Soul Transfer Transformation> has increased.]

[The rank of the trait <Celestial Slayer> has increased.]

[The rank of the trait <Flying Spirit> has increased.]

[The rank of the trait <Crisis Detection> has increased.]

This time, it was not only a new trait that appeared. Raon’s stats and the ranks of his traits increased as well.

“Huh….”

Raon blinked in bewilderment.

W-what the hell is this now?!

Wrath pointed angrily at the reward messages, shouting that the system had gone mad.

What bullshit is this about the King of Essence's permission!

‘Just now….’

Raon pointed toward the first message, the corners of his lips curling upward.

‘You said something, remember?’

Uh… Ah!

Wrath blinked as he stared at the message, then his mouth fell wide open.

D-don’t tell me it’s because the King of Essence said that if you’re going to give him something, you should give him stats or a trait suited to a warrior?

‘That’s it.’

Raon nodded, saying that the system had moved because of those words.

Y-you’ve got to be kidding me!

Wrath exploded in furious rage and screamed.

That was just something the King of Essence said to make fun of this bastard! Who would take that seriously?!

‘The system.’

Raon grinned, saying that the system, at least, had taken him seriously.

Kraaagh! H-He really can’t take this anymore! He’s going to devildom right now and destroy that damned thing… Grrrgh!

Apparently truly enraged, Wrath screamed as though he were about to cough up blood, then collapsed with foam spilling from his mouth.

‘He fainted. In that case….’

Raon looked at Wrath, who was rolling his eyes back and foaming at the mouth, and chuckled.

‘Maybe I can go there first before heading to the annex building.’

*   *   *

“Yes.”

Glenn nodded with a faint smile.

“Did you find the answer you were looking for?”

His eyes narrowed as though asking whether Raon had found the answer he had been seeking when he left Zieghart.

“I think I found it, to some extent.”

Raon nodded, recalling the images the Thespian Emperor had shown through the Sacred Tome of Sun and Moon.

“Now, I think all that’s left is for me to prepare properly.”

Derus Robert was dead, and he had seen the heaven’s flow that Glenn would defeat the Heavenly Demon. According to what it showed, if he did his part well, he would be able to bring the war against Eden to an end in victory.

“I see.”

Glenn gave a gentle smile, as though he sensed a positive outcome from the look in his eyes.

“But why did it take you so long?”

He slightly lowered his brows, saying that Raon had only gone to see the Thespian Emperor yet had taken much longer than expected.

“I had a small goal besides seeing the heaven’s flow.”

Raon briefly clicked his tongue, then raised his gaze and met Glenn’s eyes.

“A goal?”

Glenn tilted his head curiously.

“It wasn’t anything grand enough to call a goal, really. I wanted to ease the allied forces’ anxiety about the war.”

Raon nodded, saying that he had conveyed a sword will that would never be broken through their clash of martial arts.

“You erased their anxiety about the war?”

Glenn gave a faint smile.

“If you really accomplished that, then it truly was grand enough to be called a goal.”

He nodded as though he considered it a good idea.

“Tell me where you went and what you did along the way.”

Glenn leaned back deeply into his throne, apparently wanting to hear about Raon’s journey.

“Yes. After coming down from Martial Blade Mountain, where the Thespian Emperor and the Queen of Swords were, I immediately went to….”

Raon briefly explained everything that had happened during that time to Glenn.

“I see. Everyone achieved their own growth. That is all….”

Glenn’s face reddened with pride in his grandson.

“Because they met you, I suppose.”

He curled his lips upward, saying that the allied forces seemed to have grown thanks to meeting Raon.

“No. It wasn’t to that extent….”

“No, that’s exactly right.”

Glenn nodded firmly.

“The archmages developing magic even to the point of creating barriers that disregard the existing system, the Beast King building up his martial arts from the beginning, and the Silent Sword Sovereign struggling to rise again were all because they met you.”

He nodded, saying that the heads of the Five Kings had no choice but to give it their all after seeing Raon’s efforts and the results he had achieved.

“Hmm.”

Raon lightly bit his lip as he looked at Glenn.

“Uhm….”

“Yes. Go ahead.”

Glenn nodded with a proud expression, as though he was willing to listen to anything. He seemed quite proud that all the heads of the Five Kings had been influenced by Raon.

“I never told you that the archmages had put up barriers, that the Beast King had rebuilt his martial arts, or that the Silent Sword Sovereign….”

Raon had told Glenn about what had happened along the way, but he had never explained things in such detail. In particular, even Raon himself had no idea that the Beast King, Ogram, had rebuilt his foundation.

“Uh… Hup!”

Glenn hurriedly drew in a breath as though realizing that he had let something slip.

“W-well, what does any of that matter? What truly matters is that we are changing!”

He turned his chin away, urging them to return to the original topic.

“We actually knew all of that.”

Sheryl sighed and held her head in her hands.

“Right after you left the Magic Tower, Lady Chamber and Lady Larian contacted us.”

She shrugged, saying that the two of them had praised Raon tremendously.

“The head of house's expression that day, haaah….”

Sheryl shook her head, saying that Glenn’s mouth had looked ready to split from ear to ear.

“The others also told us that Sir Raon had visited them.”

Roenn laughed heartily, saying that he had heard it all from beside her as well.

“Every one of them sent their thanks.”

He briefly closed his eyes, then opened them again, saying that he had been deeply moved.

“I think the head of house wanted to hear about those things again from Sir Raon.”

Roenn voiced Glenn’s unspoken thoughts and laughed heartily again.

“Keh-heh-heh-hehem!”

Glenn repeatedly cleared his throat in embarrassment.

“Isn’t it better to hear about it from different perspectives?!”

He shook his head, saying that he had merely wanted to know the exact facts.

“So what will you do from now on?”

Glenn immediately changed the subject so that Raon could not press him further.

“Now that there’s only a week left until the war, if you want to focus on individual training….”

“No. One day of individual training on the final day will be enough. For the remaining time….”

Raon declined Glenn’s offer to lend him the head of the house’s training ground and gave a gentle smile.

“I want to spend time with the people who have been with me all this time.”

*   *   *

After finishing his conversation with Glenn, Raon immediately headed to the annex building.

Hmm….

As the annex building’s garden came faintly into view, Wrath, who was clinging to his shoulder, slowly lifted his eyelids.

The King of Essence feels like something frightening and extremely infuriating happened….

‘It was probably a dream.’

Raon told him it was nothing and pointed toward the garden of the annex building.

‘Don’t think about anything unpleasant like that. Look ahead. See the chimney of the annex building? All the food you want will be waiting for you.’

To keep Wrath from going berserk again, Raon pointed toward the annex building’s chimney, smoke rising from it.

Oh! You’re right!

Wrath jumped up.

The smell of all kinds of food is coming from the house!

He drooled as he said that the delicious aromas were stimulating his entire body

‘Today, I’ll let you eat everything you want… Hmm?’

Just as Raon was saying that he would let Wrath eat all the food he wanted.

Fwoooooosh!

A familiar energy was writhing like a divine dragon as it approached from the direction of North Grave Mountain.

“This is….”

Before Raon could even say anything about the familiar energy, an old man with white hair appeared before his eyes.

“You’re late.”

Rector nodded with a calm smile.

“Grandfather?”

Raon blinked at Rector’s unexpected appearance.

“When did you come down?”

“It’s about time I started getting ready.”

Rector grinned, saying that with only a week left until the war, it was time for him to finish his training and come down.

“Then, have you achieved your goal?”

“A swordsman’s goal has no end, you know.”

Rector waved his hand dismissively, as though saying he still had a long way to go.

“Let’s go inside first. Mother and the maids have prepared dinner….”

“Dinner sounds good, but there’s something I must tell you.”

He took Raon’s hand as though there were something more important than that.

“If there’s something you need to tell me….”

“The origins of your father and me.”

Rector calmly drew a breath, his deeply sunken eyes flashing.

“It’s about the Holy Sword Alliance.”
