The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman 1321

 Chapter 1321

"So..."

Glenn sat upon the throne and gave a slow nod.

“Is this exhaustion training truly that difficult?”

He furrowed his brows after listening to the swordsmen's complaints.

"Y-Yes, it is."

“It wasn’t just difficult! We truly felt death itself!”

“My head was definitely cut off, but when I came to my senses, I was alive again. Then the Light Wind Palace master sword came flying at me once more!”

“I-It was hell! Please stop him!”

“That wasn’t training, it was torture! We’re not prisoners!”

As if they had finally found their one and only hope, the swordsmen tearfully poured out their grievances to Glenn.

“Light Wind Palace master.”

Glenn nodded lightly before turning his gaze to Raon.

“How exactly is this exhaustion training conducted?”

He smacked his lips lightly, his interest clearly piqued.

"It is an application of the Heart Sword."

After bowing toward Glenn, Raon stepped forward.

“Rather than cutting the opponent’s soul, it inflicts an impact strong enough to shake the spirit, allowing them to experience death itself.”

He clasped his hands together as he explained that the Heart Sword was controlled with extreme precision, making it possible to experience death without leaving any lasting aftereffects.

“It is certainly a dangerous form of training, but I am confident that anyone who overcomes it will advance both physically and mentally by at least one level.”

Bowing respectfully toward Glenn, Raon insisted that it had never been torture.

“T-The Heart Sword?”

“That was the Heart Sword that hit us?”

“Crazy! I survived getting struck by the Heart Sword?”

“So it wasn’t just torture!”

“B-But is it even possible to use the Heart Sword like that?”

“He’s a monster. That man is a monster...”

After hearing Raon’s explanation, the swordsmen stared with their mouths hanging open, realizing they had experienced an opportunity that would likely never come again.

“Ahem!”

Glenn cleared his throat, seemingly pleased by their astonished reaction to Raon’s abilities. The corners of his trembling lips curled upward. His face had already been red for quite some time, as though he had been eagerly waiting for this very moment.

Gaaaaah! There's that expression again!

The moment Wrath saw Glenn’s face, he furrowed his brow in irritation.

“Incidentally.”

When the swordsmen’s voices had quieted somewhat, Glenn lowered a benevolent gaze upon them.

“The exhaustion training the Light Wind Palace master provided for you is something even I cannot do. In this world, Raon Zieghart alone is capable of it.”

He nodded slowly, explaining that while he could kill people with the Heart Sword, he could never manipulate it with the same level of precision as Raon.

“E-Even the head of house can’t do it?”

"Just what on earth is that man...?"

“At this point, words like genius or talent aren’t enough to describe him.”

“I can’t even bring myself to feel jealous anymore.”

The swordsmen trembled with shock once again after hearing Glenn’s words.

“Ahem!”

Apparently delighted by their reactions, Glenn’s neck turned red as well.

That geezer…

Wrath let out a deep sigh, sounding utterly fed up.

He never changes! No, he’s gotten even worse!

Grinding his teeth, Wrath glared at Glenn, who was no longer even trying to hide his smile.

The King of Essence’s telling you, when he dies, he’ll still be bragging about you!

Wrath wrinkled his nose, saying that Glenn would probably breathe his last while saying something like, “My grandson’s Heart Sword is so ama—urk...”

‘He might actually do that...’

Raon chuckled and agreed with Wrath's words. In the past, he would have told him to stop talking nonsense, but now he understood why Glenn reacted this way. No one in the world was prouder of him than Glenn.

“Ahem!”

After calming the noisy training ground with another cough, Glenn turned toward Raon.

“Light Wind Palace master. While acting in my place as head of house, what have you accomplished during this time? Report it.”

He nodded, saying that he would now hear about the matters Raon had handled and review his achievements.

“Yes…”

Meeting Glenn’s eyes, Raon let out a sigh too quiet to be heard.

‘Even though he already knows everything.’

Yesterday, Glenn had said that once morning came, he would hear everything together with everyone else. In the end, however, he had failed to wait and listened to everything in the audience chamber beforehand.

His acting, pretending to know nothing when he already knew the whole story was so natural that it actually gave Raon slight goosebumps.

“I’ll begin with Birdnew village. The villagers were massacred…”

Starting with the story of Syria Sullion, who had massacred the people of Birdnew village, Raon recounted everything that had happened up to the recent incident in which Uriel’s power had been weakened.

He could have left out many details, but with the war against Eden approaching, he deliberately explained much of it in depth to raise the morale of the swordsmen.

“Huh…?”

“H-He went straight after Uriel right after killing Sariel?”

"How is that even possible? He couldn't have gotten any sleep while luring Sariel out, right?"

“His stamina is insane, and his willpower is just as insane…”

“And after all that, he still managed to weaken Uriel and even destroy a temple connected to heaven? That makes no sense!”

“That goes far beyond a mere achievement. It’s a truly legendary accomplishment!”

The swordsmen had known the rough outline of what had happened, but hearing the full story directly from Raon left them unable to close their gaping mouths.

"W-wait! Wasn't he only supposed to be doing reconnaissance?"

Burren's jaw trembled as though he had never heard any of this before.

“He really is an absolute madman. To think he even managed to take a swing at Uriel in the middle of all that!”

Martha let out a hollow laugh, remarking that Raon remained astonishing no matter how many times she saw him.

“As expected...!”

Runaan raised a thumbs-up toward Raon, as if telling him he had done well.

"N-no wonder he felt stronger..."

Dorian’s shoulders trembled as he admitted that Raon was starting to frighten him.

“Whew. I really need to stop mouthing off to him from now on...”

Krein smacked his lips, deciding he should watch what he said even behind Raon's back.

“T-That’s right! Not a single one of those accomplishments is ordinary!”

As if overwhelmed by the exhilaration he had not felt in a long time, Glenn trembled from head to toe.

“Since Derus Robert's death, the archangels, together with Eden, have been among the few enemies capable of threatening us. Killing one of them and weakening another is an achievement that needs no explanation!”

The corners of his reddened lips curled upward as he declared that Raon had accumulated extraordinary accomplishments.

“I believe that even if I granted the Light Wind Palace master every reward within my power, it would still not be enough.”

At this point, Glenn seemed to have completely abandoned any intention of hiding his favoritism, openly displaying a broad smile.

“We agree!”

The swordsmen nodded as though it would not be strange at all to hand Raon the entirety of Zieghart’s treasury.

“However, Light Wind Palace master.”

Glenn raised a finger, indicating that there was still one matter left.

"Your physical condition doesn't seem normal right now..."

Narrowing his eyes to slits as he looked down at Raon, he continued.

“Don’t tell me you trained the swordsmen before even recovering from the injuries you suffered against the archangels?”

Even though he knew the entire story, Glenn inhaled sharply and pretended not to.

“Huh?”

“N-Now that I think about it, the head of house is right!”

“He fought archangel Sariel and archangel Uriel. No matter how strong the Light Wind Palace master is, those injuries must have been severe. Yet he started training us the moment he returned!”

“W-Why would he not even treat his injuries first...?”

The swordsmen swallowed dryly as they realized Raon had trained them without even taking care of himself.

“With the war against Eden drawing near…”

Glenn clicked his tongue softly.

“He probably wanted to make all of you stronger, even if it meant enduring his own pain. He would have wanted to reduce casualties as much as possible.”

Like a seasoned storyteller recounting a moving tale, he nodded with a sigh, as though he knew exactly what was in Raon's heart.

“Palace master…”

“W-We’re sorry! We had no idea!”

“Palace master! We will serve you with sincere loyalty!”

“Please train us again! Of course, only after you’ve fully recovered! We’ll endure the exhaustion training even if it kills us!”

Only now did the swordsmen seem to understand why Raon had pushed them so hard. They bit their lips with burning eyes, and the more emotional among them already had tears welling up.

“Ahem!”

Glenn curled his lips all the way to his ears, clearly pleased with how things had turned out.

Haaah…

Wrath sighed and rubbed his temples as though a headache was coming on.

“...”

Refusing to meet the admiring gazes directed at him, Raon squeezed his eyes shut.

‘Please, enough already….’

*   *   *

“Grandfather…”

Entering the audience chamber, Raon looked at Glenn and let out a sigh.

“You went too far.”

He let out a deep sigh, saying that Glenn had gone too far this time.

“Hmm? What exactly did I go too far with?”

Glenn narrowed his eyes slightly as he looked at him.

“Not a single one of your accomplishments was easy to achieve. Praising someone who risked his life for Zieghart is only natural!”

He firmly shook his head, insisting that achievements like those should not simply be allowed to pass without recognition.

The King of Essence agrees with that reasoning.

Wrath nodded calmly while looking at Glenn.

In devildom as well, those who accomplish great things receive rewards and praise worthy of those accomplishments. In fact, it is even more excessive there.

He smacked his lips, saying that in devildom, everything was judged by results.

Of course, doing it the way that doting geezer does is a bit much.

Wrath clicked his tongue, saying that gathering everyone together to praise someone while already knowing every detail was a bit much.

‘Is that so?’

Raon looked away with an uncertain expression.

Well, considering everything you've accomplished, no one would find it strange to call them great achievements.

Wrath nodded, saying that credit should be given where credit was due.

“And besides, isn’t it better for others to praise you than for you to praise yourself? Once you become the head of house, it won’t be easy for you to speak highly of yourself.”

Glenn smiled faintly, telling Raon to enjoy it while he was still around to set the stage for him.

It felt as though Glenn's personality had changed considerably after his secluded training. Then again, perhaps he had always been this way and had merely been wearing the mask of the head of house.

“Haaah. Understood.”

Raon sighed and nodded.

“Good. How is your condition?”

Glenn lowered his gaze slightly to the bandages wrapped around Raon’s body.

“I’m fine. Sir Federick took good care of me. Though he did scold me for coming to him so late.”

Raon rolled his shoulders, saying that he would recover soon enough.

“That is a relief.”

Glenn smiled calmly, as if he had expected as much.

“There is something I would like to ask you, head of house.”

Lowering the hand he had been rotating at the wrist, Raon bowed slightly.

“What exactly happened to you?”

Glenn's previous explanation had been too brief for him to fully understand what had changed and what had been gained.

More than anything, Glenn's sudden aging was deeply concerning, and even his personality seemed far gentler than before. Raon couldn't help but worry

“There are still things I want to ask you as well.”

Glenn nodded with a faint smile.

“In that case, shall we—”

Raon was about to suggest sitting down and talking when Glenn interrupted him.

“Talking over tea is certainly nice, but there are times when a sword can express more than words ever could.”

Resting a hand on Heavenly Tremor at his waist, Glenn curled his wrinkled lips into a smile.

“Today, I would like to have a conversation with my grandson through our swords. As for the concerns on your mind...”

Despite his aged appearance, he raised his chin with a confident smile.

“I believe they can be resolved.”
