The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman 1210
Chapter 1210
M-Madwoman?
Wrath recoiled in shock, his eyes darting around wildly.
W-Where? Where is she? Where’s the madwoman?!
He swallowed hard, already bracing himself to bolt at any moment.
Huh?
Wrath scanned the surroundings, but when he confirmed that there was no one, no person or animal, that looked like Evelyn anywhere nearby, he blinked in confusion.
There’s nothing here! Absolutely nothing!
He scrunched up his nose, thrusting his face forward as if asking why Raon had lied.
‘If she showed up as a human or an animal, she’d obviously be exposed.’
Raon waved a hand at Wrath dismissively.
That makes no sense! If she didn’t appear as a person, and she isn’t possessing an animal either, then how could that madwoman possibly be here?
Wrath tilted his head, clearly unable to understand.
‘She is here right now.’
Raon pointed toward the grass swaying gently in the night breeze.
D-Don’t tell me…
Wrath stared at the wind that seemed to shimmer with greenery, his jaw trembling.
You’re saying the madwoman is inside this wind?
He shouted with eyes full of disbelief.
‘That’s right.’
Raon nodded with a faint smile.
‘She couldn’t physically appear here in human form, and animal possession would be detected, so there was only one possible method.’
He lifted a finger, calling forth the breeze that lightly tickled his hair.
‘Nature.’
Raon curled his lips upward as green wind wrapped around his long, elegant fingers.
‘Evelyn created a magic that embeds her soul into nature itself.’
Even after learning that her lifelong animal-possession magic would be detected if she tried to enter, Evelyn didn’t give up.
No, she may have been disappointed, but she didn’t stop there. She researched new magic, and eventually reached the realm where she could embed her soul into nature itself.
Though our paths of growth as a warrior and a mage were different, I had always admired her effort and willpower.
C-Crazy….
Wrath clutched his head and bowed it as he looked at the wind that seemed to carry Evelyn’s laughter.
She really is a crazy woman! A fanatical obsession!
He screamed that at this point, Evelyn’s obsession might surpass even Lust.
‘Still, it’s not perfect yet.’
Raon waved his hand with a small smile.
‘Nature is so vast that trying to dissolve a soul into it could cause the soul itself to vanish.’
Evelyn hadn’t succeeded at that magic from the start.
She devised countless methods, failed over and over again, and only at the very end did she finally succeed, what existed now was the result of that perseverance, the Soul Releasing Magic.
Just as Wrath said, it was practically a magic born from obsession.
That’s terrifying… At this rate, you’ll never be free of that madwoman for the rest of your life.
Wrath’s fingertips trembled as he squeezed his eyes shut.
But why wind? There’s earth, and fire you’re familiar with, or even frost.
He tilted his chin slightly, genuinely curious.
‘Only wind succeeded.’
Raon slowly rotated his finger.
‘Just like you said, she tried fire and frost first since those are closest to me, but they all failed. Only wind worked. And even then…’
He looked up at the sky and pointed at the wind shimmering green.
‘Only this kind of wind, one that smells of the forest. Almost like someone was helping her.’
As he felt the green wind rising from the forest, he thought of that person and formed a faint smile.
Hey, no way. It can’t be that guy again, right…?
Wrath muttered it like a denial, but his sigh showed he wasn’t convinced.
He really wishes he’d just stop meddling already.
‘I agree.’
Raon chuckled softly and nodded.
Now, tell the madwoman what’s happening here.
Wrath wagged his tail, indicating that his curiosity was satisfied and it was time to work.
‘Huh? I already did.’
Raon shrugged at him.
You… You did? When?
Wrath stared wide-eyed, completely unaware.
‘Like I said earlier, the magic isn’t perfect. The amount of information that can be conveyed is limited, and the duration is short. So Evelyn returned immediately after hearing the situation here.’
Raon nodded, saying that Evelyn had already gone.
‘She’ll use the information I gave her to find this place and figure out how to break through the defenses.’
He smiled, saying that when it came to things like this, Evelyn was entirely reliable.
You stupid fool!
Wrath shrieked and swung his hand like a blade.
Returned immediately? Don’t be ridiculous. That madwoman would never leave you alone!
He shook his head violently, shouting that Raon still didn’t understand Evelyn at all.
She’s obviously still watching you even now!
* * *
“Haaaah…”
Evelyn let out a hot breath with her eyes closed.
“Even like that, he’s still handsome. As expected of Raon.”
She swayed from side to side, holding her flushed cheeks, as if utterly enchanted by what she was seeing
“Um… Evelyn?”
Burren approached her cautiously.
“It looks like it’s over now, so maybe you could tell us—”
He smacked his lips, clearly eager to hear the information Raon had uncovered.
“I’m busy right now! It’s not over yet, so stay out of it!”
Evelyn shook her head with her eyes closed, saying that the magic was still ongoing.
“Ohohoho! Look at those abs!”
Despite saying it wasn’t over, she muttered strange things and let out a creepy laugh.
“Not finished, my ass!”
“Hmph…!”
Martha and Runaan lifted their legs and kicked Evelyn in the back and butt.
“Aaagh!”
Struck without warning, Evelyn screamed and toppled forward.
“I’m in the middle of controlling my magic! What do you think you’re doing?!”
She sprang to her feet, glaring with blazing purple eyes.
“It’s over! Do you think we’re stupid?”
“You definitely said ‘abs’…”
Martha and Runaan wrinkled their noses.
“Ugh… here we go again…”
Dorian, as if used to scenes like this, pressed his lips together and watched carefully.
“Tch.”
Evelyn clicked her tongue, clearly annoyed at having been found out by Martha and Runaan.
“U-Um, setting us aside, they are waiting too, so please speak.”
Burren raised his hand and pointed behind them. Standing there were Glenn, the head of house Zieghart, and Rector, the Holy Sword Alliance’s master.
“There’s an earthquake happening right now, and lightning is crashing from the sky!”
Burren’s shoulders trembled as he looked at Rector, who was causing the ground to shake, and Glenn, who was summoning lightning, both wearing terrifying expressions. He screamed that the silent pressure of their stares was unbearable.
“Ah! Right!”
Evelyn instantly brightened and walked toward Glenn and Rector.
“Grandfathers! I’ve brought news about Raon!”
She smiled cheerfully, saying this was the story they’d been waiting for.
“Ahem!”
“So now we finally hear it!”
Though they had been waiting desperately for news of Raon, Glenn and Rector kept their expressions calm, as if it were no great matter.
“To start with, the place called Heaven is land sustained by human desire. Using divine power—”
Evelyn laid out for everyone all the information about Heaven she had heard from Raon.
“A duel with desire on the line…”
Glenn let out a hollow laugh in disbelief.
“So it wrings the human soul dry like a rag. Typical of Derus Robert.”
Rector frowned deeply, saying it was even uglier than he’d imagined.
“That’s right. Most of the people in Heaven probably won’t live long because their souls are being consumed.”
Evelyn called it a dangerous land and let a cold smile curve across her lips.
“Th-Then doesn’t that mean Sir Raon is in danger too?”
Dorian’s chin trembled as he voiced his worry for Raon.
“That’s not the case. Raon isn’t an ordinary human.”
Evelyn waved her hand with a gentle smile.
“She’s right. The size of Raon’s soul is even greater than mine.”
Rector smiled faintly, saying Raon’s soul was likely larger than his own.
“Even if all of that land called Heaven were poured into him, it still wouldn’t be enough to fill Raon’s soul, so there’s no need to worry.”
Glenn nodded calmly, clearly agreeing with Rector.
“That’s a relief, then.”
“Haaah…”
Martha and Runaan let out sighs of relief, reassured by Glenn and Rector’s certainty about Raon’s safety.
“Th-then what should we prepare to do?”
Dorian swallowed nervously, uneasy about what needed to be done with the information they now had.
“Well, obviously—”
“Why even ask! That’s….”
“From this point on—”
Without anyone prompting them, Burren, Martha, and Runaan all spoke at the same time.
“We have to bring Heaven itself down!”
* * *
As soon as day broke, Raon went to find a tower similar in height to his own.
“Uh… you’re starting here?”
Charlie rolled his eyes, clearly thinking it would be better to begin with a shorter one.
“Hmmm…”
Raon folded his arms and stroked his chin, as if giving Charlie’s suggestion some thought.
“F-finally, you’re listening to what I say!”
Charlie clapped his hands loudly, seeming to believe that Raon was respecting his opinion.
“Excellent! I, Charlie, will give my all to support you so that Sir Jilpen’s tower may reach the—”
He was smiling broadly and nodding when—
Ssshhh—
Raon stepped toward the tower and lifted his leg.
“Uh, S-Sir Jilpen? What are you doing—”
Charlie sensed danger instinctively and blinked rapidly.
“Provocation.”
Raon twisted his lips into a grin and kicked the tower with the raised leg.
Kwaaaaaang!
Filled with the desires of the Demon Kings, the tower shook as if its roots were about to be torn out, and a terrifying tremor surged through the ground.
“C-Crazy…. He’s a real madman!”
Charlie gaped, unable to imagine that Raon would provoke things so openly.
“Aaaah!”
“Wh-What’s happening?!”
“It’s an earthquake! There’s an earthquake in Heaven!”
“Run! Get out of here!”
People around the tower screamed and scattered in all directions.
“H-huh?! My tower!”
But one person alone did not flee, even as the ground twisted violently. Instead, he ran inward and grabbed onto the shaking tower.
“Y-you bastard! Was it you who tried to destroy my tower?!”
The tower’s owner realized Raon was the cause and ground his teeth so hard they nearly cracked.
“That’s right. It was me.”
Raon walked up, hands on his hips, and stopped in front of him.
“Stake this tower and fight me in a duel.”
He curled his lips, saying they should fight not over some half-baked desire, but by staking the tower that held everything the man possessed.
“A d-duel… staking my tower? You lunatic!”
The tower owner frowned deeply, as if the idea were absurd.
“If you beat me, twice the desire bound to my tower will be added to yours. Then…”
Raon casually raised his hand toward the trembling tower.
“That should reach about that height.”
He smiled faintly while pointing to a tower at least three times taller than the one before him.
“H-How can I believe that….”
The tower owner pressed his lips together, tempted by the offer but unable to believe it outright.
“Priest Srude will guarantee it. It was an offer that came from his own mouth.”
Raon waved his hand, telling him to go ask Priest Srude himself if he didn’t believe it.
“It’s true. Priest Srude told Sir Jilpen yesterday.”
Charlie swallowed hard, saying he’d heard it himself.
“T-twice?”
“Then it’s worth doing, isn’t it? If you win, your tower doubles!”
“Yeah. Even if it’s risky, the reward is huge!”
“I—I want to do it!”
“You’d be an idiot to pass this up! There’s no point staying in Heaven if you don’t!”
The people who had fled gathered back around, throwing in their comments one after another. All of them stared at the tower owner with sharp eyes, as if urging him to accept.
“Hmmm…”
Even with the promise of doubling everything, the tower owner still hesitated, licking his dry lips with a cracked tongue.
“You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to.”
Raon smiled faintly and waved his hand.
“There’ll be plenty of tower owners willing to fight me.”
Thanks to Priest Srude, he had gained the initiative that shouldn't have existed. As long as the reward of doubling the tower existed, he could dominate the situation in Heaven.
“Say it yourself. Will you seize the opportunity, or—”
Raon tilted his chin arrogantly as he looked at the trembling tower owner.
“Live the rest of your life as a coward.”
