The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman 1186
Chapter 1186
“We’ve arrived.”
Raon let out a whistle as he looked up at Zieghart’s main gate, which towered like a wall of snow.
‘Just seeing that gate puts my mind at ease.’
In truth, when he had received Glenn’s permission to set out and departed, he had been plagued by worries. Questions of whether he would even be able to find the Dragon Lord, and whether he could defeat him if he did, had wrapped tightly around his thoughts.
But all of those worries and doubts vanished as if washed away after they killed the Dragon Lord and the ancient dragons. Now that he had returned to Zieghart, he felt a sense of relief in his chest, like finally digesting food that had been stuck.
“Waaah!”
Dorian burst out with an excited shout as he looked at Zieghart’s walls.
“That gate looks more magnificent every time I see it! It feels like it would never break no matter who attacked it!”
He nodded emphatically, saying that the walls of Zieghart standing before them looked as if they wouldn’t even shake under an assault from Derus Robert or the Heavenly Demon.
“What are you talking about?”
Raon turned his head toward Dorian after looking at the wall.
“That wall already collapsed once.”
He shrugged, referring to how the walls and gate had been breached during the previous attacks by the White Blood Religion, Eden, and the dragons.
“N-nooo….”
Dorian stared at Raon with his mouth hanging open.
“I-I know that already! I’m just saying the walls look that tall and sturdy!”
Rarely for him, he frowned deeply and raised his voice at Raon.
“You’re part of this house, don’t say it like that!”
Dorian clenched his fists, as if to say, just because something was true didn’t mean it had to be said out loud.
“How heartless.”
Burren shook his head while patting Dorian’s shoulder, where he was sniffling.
“Raon is definitely in the wrong this time.”
He sighed toward Raon as if siding with Dorian.
“It was a comment he didn't need to make.”
Martha also agreed with Burren and shot Raon a brief glare.
“No! Don’t listen to them! Raon’s completely right!”
Evelyn waved her hand with a bright smile, as if whatever Raon said was fine by her.
Honestly, this guy…
Wrath let out a hollow laugh in disbelief.
You said you’d realized emotions, but now you won’t empathize even when you understand them!
He shook his head, muttering that Raon was truly evil.
‘It’s funny.’
Raon let out a soft chuckle and walked toward Zieghart’s gate.
‘I can see people’s emotions a bit now.’
These days, I could clearly sense people’s surface emotions.
I knew what kind of answer Dorian wanted, but I simply didn’t feel like saying it.
You get a little stronger, and your personality twists up like this!
Wrath scrunched up his nose bridge, saying Raon’s personality had become more irritating than his might.
The King of Essence should use his ice fists to give someone like you a true education!
Letting out a heavy sigh, he muttered that he couldn’t win in a battle of souls.
One day, once the King of Essence regains his true power, you—
‘Yeah. Do it later.’
Raon lightly waved his hand at Wrath and stopped in front of Zieghart’s main gate.
Kugugugugugu!
As if recognizing him and his group, the gate that truly looked like it would never break opened, just as Dorian had said, and the Foreign Minister Illiune walked out.
“You looked extremely tense when you left, so I thought it was a dangerous mission. I’m glad you came back safely.”
Illiune greeted Raon with a bright expression, as if he hadn’t yet heard the news of the Dragon Lord’s defeat.
“You don’t look injured, either.”
After inspecting Raon from head to toe and finding no wounds, he nodded in satisfaction.
“Yes. I was lucky.”
Raon replied that things had gone well, drawing a faint smile.
“I don’t know why you’re always the only one with such luck. At that point, it’s practically cheating!”
Illiune clicked his tongue, saying Raon should stop calling it luck and admit it was skill.
“You used to be nothing but a little kid, but now you’re—ah!”
He was about to mention the past when his eyes widened as if he’d suddenly remembered something.
“This is no time for that. Go to the lord’s manor right away!”
Illiune pointed toward the main building, urging him to go immediately. His complexion looked as though it was turning pale.
“Did something happen to the head of house?”
Raon narrowed his eyes as he looked at Illiune.
“You’ll understand when you get there.”
Illiune waved his hands quickly, as if there was no need for him to explain.
“Hmm…”
“Did something happen again?”
Burren and Martha exchanged glances, letting out low groans in confusion.
“Ahh, I really don’t want to go out again now…”
Dorian let out a deep sigh, as if he didn’t want to be assigned any more missions.
“I’m fine going anywhere Raon goes.”
Evelyn hovered behind Raon, saying she wouldn’t mind receiving a new mission right away.
This damned house really doesn’t have a single quiet day!
Wrath shook his head, sounding exhausted.
“Let’s go.”
Raon gestured for the others to follow and headed toward the main building first.
‘This really does feel different from usual.’
The closer I got, the more I could feel a cold, chilling energy wave rising from inside the lord’s manor. Illiune’s expression when he opened the gate hadn’t seemed bad, so I had thought it wasn’t anything serious, but it felt like something major might have happened.
‘It feels like all of Zieghart’s executives are gathered.’
Standing before the main building, he sensed the presence of Zieghart’s executives assembled in the audience chamber. From palace masters like Karoon, Balder, and Aris, to those who seemed to have only recently become executives and were still relatively weak, truly, it felt as though every executive within the house had been summoned.
‘Their conditions aren’t good.’
Anger was rising from the executives inside the audience chamber. But unlike ordinary anger, it was mixed with fatigue, weariness, and boredom, emotions I could recognize because I had received the authority of wrath from Wrath.
‘What on earth is going on?’
Biting his lip, Raon entered the lord’s manor and opened the doors to the audience chamber.
Kugugugugugu!
As the doors opened, executives standing in lines like pillars came into view. The anger and fatigue he had sensed from outside surged in vividly, as if pressing directly against his skin.
‘Their expressions aren’t good either.’
Dark circles ringed their eyes, and exhaustion seemed to pour from their faces like a waterfall. The only person who looked normal here was Karoon.
This definitely doesn’t look like a good thing.
Even Wrath let out a low groan after sensing the atmosphere.
‘This might just be my imagination, but…’
It feels like their anger is directed at me?
It wasn’t just a feeling. The executives were clearly facing forward, yet I could sense their anger pressing toward me.
What in the world is going on… huh?
As Raon slowly lifted his gaze toward the platform, he blinked blankly.
‘Why is grandfather smiling?’
Unlike the executives, who were steeped in fatigue and irritation, Glenn was looking at me with eyes brimming with vitality, as though he were twenty years younger. It didn’t seem like anything serious had happened to him.
“I greet the head of house—”
Raon stood in the center of the audience chamber and was about to kneel before Glenn when—
“That’s enough!”
Glenn lifted Raon’s upper body with formless energy, saying there was no need for greetings.
“Yes! You’ve finally arrived!”
He nodded vigorously, saying he had been waiting only for this moment.
“Pardon? You were waiting…?”
Raon blinked blankly.
“Twelve hours.”
Sheryl, standing beside Glenn, let out a long sigh.
“Ever since you contacted us this morning saying you’d be returning today, we’ve been waiting the entire time….”
She muttered that she had waited for twelve hours in this solemn space while listening to the sound of Glenn shaking his leg.
“Ah…”
Raon stared out the window, where darkness had long since fallen, his mouth hanging open.
‘Since morning?’
He had sent the message that he was returning to Zieghart in the morning, and now it was already past evening, into night. At the realization that everyone had waited here for twelve hours just for him, his entire body trembled.
“The bigger problem was that we had to wait without even knowing why….”
Aris bit her lip tightly as she looked at Glenn, as if she wanted to punch him.
“Exactly! That was the worst part! It was unbearably boring!”
Balder rubbed his eyes hard, saying he nearly died of sleepiness.
“Seriously, why are we even standing around here like this?”
“My legs hurt. I’m a Grandmaster, and my legs hurt….”
“What is the reason, anyway! I knew we were waiting for the Light Wind Palace master, but I was going crazy wondering why!”
The executives stared intently at Raon, as if begging him to give them an answer. It seemed Glenn hadn’t even told them that the Dragon Lord had been defeated, from their gazes, Raon could feel both anger and confusion at the same time.
No wonder it’s a mess!
Wrath let out a hollow laugh, as if he finally understood.
That doting geezer, honestly!
Grinding his teeth, he muttered that geezer was impossible to deal with.
“Ah….”
Raon clutched his head. Killing the Dragon Lord was certainly important and happy news, but there was no need to go this far. He felt a weight on his chest from feeling sorry for the executives.
“Um, head of house….”
“Yes! Go on, tell us everything that’s happened!”
Glenn nodded fiercely, urging me to hurry and explain how I killed the Dragon Lord, paying no attention to the others’ feelings. His flushed face and blazing eyes showed nothing but affection and pride for me, making it impossible to complain.
‘Still, I can't just let it slide for the executives.’
I have to apologize somehow.
Waiting for twelve hours with Glenn is an incredibly difficult time even for the executives. It would be best to apologize for making them wait and distribute the martial manuals and swords obtained this time.
‘Even so….’
Raon formed a faint smile as he looked at Glenn, whose grin stretched from ear to ear.
‘It’s nice to see grandfather so happy.’
* * *
“…And because of that, it seems the remaining dragons will take the side of our Five Kings.”
Under the executives’ cold gazes, Raon explained everything that had happened up to this point.
As the story progressed, the anger directed at him gradually subsided, and when he reached the part about defeating the Dragon Lord one-on-one, shock and joy came surging in like a tidal wave.
“He’s a monster. He defeated three tribe leaders and the Dragon Lord by himself….”
“If he really killed the Dragon Lord, then waiting today is something I can accept!”
“I could wait twelve days, not just twelve hours.”
“The dragons aren’t neutral, they’re standing behind us now. That’s incredibly reassuring.”
“I think I know why the biography of the Light Wind Palace master is being written. I feel like talking about the story I heard today, too.”
The executives instantly let go of the anger they had been directing at him and Glenn, bursting instead into heated exclamations, as if their respect had only grown deeper.
“As expected of my nephew! I knew it!”
Aris wiped away her exhausted expression and shot her hand into the air.
“He really is different! By the way, my martial art manual….”
Even in this situation, Balder licked his lips, demanding his martial arts manual.
“The Dragon Lord….”
Karoon unfolded his crossed arms and slowly lifted his eyelids.
“A feat that will remain in history.”
He nodded calmly toward Raon, as if even he had no choice but to acknowledge it.
“Kheh-heh-heh-hem!”
Glenn let out a series of sounds that were hard to tell whether they were laughter or forced coughs, his face reddening all the way up to his neck, as if he’d known this would happen.
“This mission was something only you could have accomplished, and I’m grateful that you succeeded.”
As if trying to elevate Raon even further, he emphasized that it had been a mission possible only for him, stamping his foot heavily
“What you accomplished today will save countless lives in the war against the Two Demons. No words can fully describe this achievement.”
Saying that he’d truly worked hard, Glenn applauded Raon. His fingertips trembled as though he wanted to hug him right then and there.
“Woooooo!”
“Dragon Lord Slayer!”
“The nickname Sword Emperor isn’t wasted on him!”
“At this rate, he really might follow the head of house someday and become a Sword God.”
Following Glenn’s lead, the executives also clapped and sent cheers toward Raon.
“There’s one more thing I’d like to say.”
Raon gestured to Dorian behind him.
“We obtained weapons and martial manuals from the Dragon Lord’s nest, and I’d like to distribute them to the executives present here.”
Since the atmosphere was good, he brought up the treasure, thinking it best to apologize immediately by giving out the manuals and swords. He couldn’t master them all alone anyway, and distributing them to strengthen Zieghart as a whole was far more efficient.
“Yes! Understood!”
Grinning widely, clearly happy that it was finally his turn, Dorian pulled out the swords and martial manuals they had obtained from the Dragon Lord’s nest from his belly pocket.
“Huh….”
“That many swords and martial manuals?”
“D-did the Dragon Lord really collect all this because he felt inferior to the head of house?”
“There’s so much, I don’t even know what to choose!”
“I don't care about any of that! Long live Light Wind Palace master!”
The executives were astonished by the endless stream of swords and martial manuals, yet at the same time praised Raon for giving them the opportunity to have them, applauding once again.
“Haa….”
Feeling that the resentment of the executives who had waited twelve hours had completely dissipated, Raon let out a sigh of relief.
In truth, even if he left things as they were, they wouldn’t harm him, but as members of the same house, he wanted to keep building good feelings between them.
Hmph!
Wrath snorted at him.
You finally look a bit more human. Honestly, you’re slow.
He nodded in grudging approval, saying Raon was finally starting to resemble a proper human.
However, unlike you….
Wrath’s lips trembled as he looked at Glenn standing on the platform, as if he were sick of him.
That geezer no longer knows moderation! Looking at that expression, it doesn't seem like he’s going to stay still!
He squeezed his eyes shut, muttering that Glenn would surely hand out some utterly unreasonable reward.
‘That’s true….’
Raon swallowed dryly as he looked at Glenn, whose face was flushed red all the way up his neck.
‘It doesn’t look like grandfather is going to let this end quietly.’
Unable to predict what kind of reward Glenn would announce this time, Raon’s shoulders trembled slightly.
“Slaying the Dragon Lord, bringing the dragons to the side of the Five Kings, and now even bringing back treasures like these! An achievement the house will never see again!”
As if he’d read Raon’s thoughts, Glenn spoke in a trembling voice. He then nodded sharply, as though he’d made up his mind.
“To the Light Wind Palace master, who accomplished today’s great feat….”
