The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman 1040

 Chapter 1040

“Huh…”

Raon let out a low breath as he looked at Evelyn, who had curled up the corners of her lips.

‘How does she plan to attack the White Blood Religion?’

As a warrior, he had thought about how to kill the Kraken and raid the White Blood Religion’s headquarters, but not a single way came to mind. Let alone a surprise attack, there wasn’t even a way to enter the White Blood Religion’s headquarters while maintaining Zieghart’s full force.

‘If it were Grandfather, anything would be possible, but with my current self, it’s impossible.’

If Glenn were to move personally, he could slice the Kraken and the White Blood Religion’s headquarters in half, but he himself still did not possess that level of strength.

‘The moment I approach the White Blood Religion’s headquarters and raise my aura, the First Apostle or the religious leader will come flying out.’

If only he were given enough time, he believed he could sever the Kraken with a single sword strike. However, the instant he raised his aura to its maximum for that, the White  Blood Religion’s leader would surely sense it and come flying to twist his neck.

‘Magic won’t be all that different, will it?’

With magic too, if mana were to be operated, the White Blood Religion would detect its location from within and either move the Kraken or send out an Apostle. I don't know how she plans to attack the White Blood Religion’s headquarters.

‘What about you?’

Raon turned his gaze to Wrath, who was touching Haerang’s tail.

What do you mean, “what about”? What else is there to do?

Wrath casually raised his snow-white glowing hand.

Just freeze that octopus and the city whole, then shatter them. That’s all there is to it.

He tilted his chin confidently, saying that while the Kraken was big, he could just freeze it along with the city using his power.

The real trouble is figuring out how to eat the frozen octopus afterward. Since it’s huge, it should have a nice chewy texture, so starting with sliced raw octopus would be good, right?

Wrath smacked his lips longingly, seemingly only thinking about eating the Kraken.

“Haa…”

Raon couldn’t hold back a sigh from escaping his lips.

‘This guy is no help at all.’

The opinions of beings like Wrath or Glenn, who had even transcended Transcendence, were no help at all to someone like him, an ordinary person.

You are not an ordinary person, damn it! If others heard that, they’d be throwing stones at you!

Wrath flailed his hand, telling him not to spout nonsense.

“It's difficult to create an environment where we can make a surprise attack as we first thought. Because if magic or aura is activated, they  will notice right away.”

Evelyn waved her finger side to side, as if she had read his thoughts.

“But… I think we might be able to make those mosquito bastards stuck on the ocean floor, building up their strength, fight under the same conditions as us.”

She nodded, saying it was very complicated but highly possible.

“So what’s the method?”

Raon approached Evelyn, asking her to explain.

“Hmmm…”

Evelyn folded her arms and closed her eyes tightly before slowly lifting her eyelids.

“I can’t explain it.”

“What?”

Raon blinked blankly.

“If it’s because I don’t know magic…”

“That’s not it. Like I said a moment ago, it’s because I have to create a new kind of magic that hasn’t existed until now.”

Evelyn gave a faint smile, saying it wasn’t because she was looking down on him.

“I haven’t even drawn the base sketch on the canvas yet, so it’s hard to explain.”

She shook her head, saying that even explaining it itself was difficult.

“But there’s one thing I can tell you.”

She raised her finger and pointed to herself.

“The reason I came up with a magic to draw out the White Blood Religion is thanks to you.”

“Thanks to me?”

Raon tilted his head, looking at her finger.

“You said the Kraken uses camouflage like an octopus. I knew that too, but your words gave me the clue for creating a new magic spell.”

He had explained the octopus’s camouflage to Wrath, and then told the same thing to Evelyn and Roenn, it seemed that was when she got the hint.

“It’ll take some time, but I’ll definitely be able to do it. After all, there are others who’ll help.”

Evelyn let out a sly smile, as if she was counting on help from someone else.

“We’ve identified the White Blood Religion’s headquarters and its current state, and now we have a way to lure them out, so it’s time to return.”

Roenn chuckled softly, saying it looked like time to leave.

“Hmm…”

Raon clicked his tongue lightly as he looked at the small villa built in a corner of the city, meant to avoid suspicion.

“What? Are you disappointed you didn’t get to have fun with me at that villa?”

Evelyn nudged him with her shoulder and asked if he wanted to stay longer.

“Absolutely not.”

Raon sighed and shook his head.

“Because someone is needed to manage that place.”

Since they could arouse suspicion if they built a house and then suddenly disappeared, he thought he should ask Rabawin to send someone.

“How cold.”

Evelyn pouted her lips, disappointed that he was thinking of something completely different.

“But we can just come back after taking down the White Blood Religion, right?”

Her mood lifted quickly, and she gave a bright smile as she suggested returning after destroying them.

“Kyaring?”

Haerang looked up with sad eyes, as if surprised they were leaving so soon.

“We’ll be back soon. But there’s something I want to ask of you first…”

Raon stroked Haerang’s head as it floated in the ocean.

“Could you track where the Kraken and the White City move to?”

If the headquarters disappeared from the bottom of the canyon, everything would be for nothing, so he firmly asked Haerang while holding its paw.

“Kyaoooooo!”

Haerang let out a cute cry toward the sky, as if to say it would take care of it.

What a cute little guy.

Wrath nodded, seemingly impressed by Haerang’s will and courage.

Makes me want to take it to the devildom and raise it myself.

He licked his lips, saying he wanted to touch Haerang’s fur and tail. He really seemed to find it cute.

‘It feels different from an ordinary animal, and somehow even better.’

It was as Raon was describing the sensation of touching Haerang.

[You have achieved communication with a high-ranking spirit and soul.]

[The level of your soul has greatly increased.]

[The rank of the trait <Heart Sword (Spirit)> has increased.]

A message appeared, saying his soul level had risen and the rank of Heart Sword had increased, thanks to Haerang.

“Wow…”

Raon let out a hollow laugh, still holding Haerang’s forepaw.

‘This little guy is really a bundle of fortune.’

He had only given it a name because it was inconvenient to call it otherwise, and simply shared a few words with it, he hadn’t expected that would cause his Heart Sword to rise in rank.

Grrrrgh…

Wrath trembled his jaw as he stared at the message in disbelief.

How is this even happening?! Why are you getting rewarded all of a sudden?!

‘I guess you really do have to live kindly after all.’

Raon smiled, feeling like this was the reward for not extinguishing Haerang and doing everything he could to save it.

You damn mutt!

Wrath, who had just been calling Haerang cute a moment ago, now yelled and called it a mutt.

The  King of Essence doesn’t want to see you, get lost!

“Kyaong!”

Haerang, unable to hear Wrath’s words, just let out a joyful cry.

The Tenth Apostle stood in the watchpost atop the spire, from which the ocean outside the headquarters could be seen at a glance. While he stood like a statue, silently watching the ocean, the back door opened and the First Apostle stepped inside.

“Tenth Apostle.”

The First Apostle called out to him and threw some documents onto the floor of the watchpost.

“What are you doing here?”

He frowned, as if displeased that an apostle would be standing guard at a watchpost.

“A dead fish appeared two days ago and was said to have been caught by the Kraken.”

The Tenth Apostle spoke without turning around.

“The Ninth Apostle died, and the Blood Spirit Ship was destroyed. I thought it might not be a coincidence, so I wanted to check for myself.”

He nodded faintly, saying he was keeping watch in preparation for any possible situation.

“So did that possible situation actually show itself?”

The First Apostle twisted his lips in a sneer at the Tenth Apostle.

“Nothing has happened yet.”

The Tenth Apostle shook his head, saying that nothing had appeared.

“You’re being excessive.”

The First Apostle clicked his tongue as he looked out over the vast ocean.

“Even if the Ninth Apostle was foolish enough to die from not knowing his place, there’s no way he would’ve revealed this place’s secret.”

He brushed his hands as if saying this was all a pointless effort.

“Thanks to you doing this, I hear the bishops' work is getting delayed. You should stop messing around and get back.”

The First Apostle turned on his heel, footsteps ringing, as if to say that was enough.

“And unlike that man who’s surpassed the wall, you’re still just a Grandmaster. It's time you focused on your training.”

With that advice, or rather, criticism, that he shouldn’t be wasting time like this, and should at least swing his spear once, he descended the spire.

“……”

Even after the First Apostle left, the Tenth Apostle didn’t move and continued to watch the ocean.

“Tenth Apostle.”

It was only after another two days had passed and the blonde archbishop came looking for him that he finally turned his gaze.

“Has it been four days?”

“Yes. Exactly four days.”

The blonde archbishop nodded, saying the promised time had arrived.

“I see.”

The Tenth Apostle nodded calmly and, for the first time, turned his body.

“Let’s return.”

He let out a short breath as if the suspicion he had harbored had now disappeared, and descended the tower. Though he hadn’t moved a single finger for four days, his steps were terrifyingly firm.

“Yes, sir!”

The archbishop let out a breath of relief and followed behind the Tenth Apostle.

Neither the Tenth Apostle, who had already turned his back, nor the archbishop noticed the young wolf’s blue eyes peering in from outside the barrier to observe the inside.

Krrrreung.

Raon returned directly to Zieghart and went to the lord’s manor, where Glenn was waiting.

“I greet the he—”

“That’s enough.”

Glenn waved his hand as he rose from the throne, as if saying greetings weren’t necessary. Perhaps from the worry he’d carried, a wrinkle not seen before had formed on his forehead.

“So, none of you were hurt?”

Rather than asking about the mission, Glenn lowered his gaze, seemingly concerned for the well-being of Raon, Roenn, and Evelyn. He looked like a completely different person from when he was known as the Destructive King of the North, radiating cold energy.

“Thanks to Sir Raon, we returned without trouble.”

Roenn chuckled with a nod.

“It's just a shame I couldn't enjoy the trip with Raon.”

Evelyn waved her finger, saying everything else was good except for that.

“We didn’t clash with the White Blood Religion at all.”

Raon stood straight as he reported that there had been no problems whatsoever.

“Then… you found the headquarters of the bloody demons?”

“Yes. We found it.”

He nodded, saying they found it by good fortune.

“Huh…”

Glenn, as if he hadn't really thought they would find it, rarely widened his eyes.

“Though… it wasn’t in the place I originally thought. It could be in a different location if we go back later.”

Raon licked his lips, saying that it might already have moved to another location.

“What do you mean by that?”

“If I explain in detail—”

“Wait a moment!”

Just as Raon was about to explain everything that had happened, Evelyn raised her hand and stepped forward.

“Grandfather. Can you contact Lady Chamber and the Magic Magic Tower master right now?”

“If it’s something truly important, I can call them.”

Glenn slightly lifted his brow at her calling him grandfather, then gave a nod.

“Whether they answer the call or not is another matter, though.”

He tapped the armrest of the throne with his finger, saying they might not respond if they were busy or engaged in something else.

“Then could you please call them? There’s something I want to explain to both of them.”

Evelyn brought her hands together as she told Glenn that it was something necessary.

“It is something important.”

Raon nodded as he looked at Glenn.

“Aww, Grandpa.”

Evelyn took a step closer to Glenn, lacing her voice with a touch of cuteness.

“I-I’ll call them, so don’t come any closer!”

Glenn quickly waved his hand, looking flustered, as if Evelyn made him feel burdened.

“Wait just a moment.”

He took out a round box from inside his clothes and, as he gently touched two spots, a strange resonance burst forth, and two blue windows floated up above the box.

[W-What the?! Did Zieghart get attacked? Why the emergency line?!]

Chamber, who had her feet propped on her desk and a candy in her mouth, screamed and fell out of her seat at the beeping sound.

[Uuuhhh… huuuhhh….]

On the opposite screen, the Magic Tower master, Larian, appeared groaning like a zombie on a king-size bed.

“Raon and Evelyn asked me to call you, so I used the emergency line.”

Glenn nodded calmly, saying that the official line would’ve taken too long, so he had used the emergency line.

[You crazy old man! I don’t care how busy you are, this is too much!]

Chamber gritted his teeth, asking if Glenn had finally gone senile.

[Ughhh, so... tired... owwwww....]

Larian crawled out of bed like a slug, mumbling something unintelligible.

[What’s wrong with you now?!]

[I-I haven’t slept in a week…]

She panted, saying she had stayed up every night for a week and had only just fallen asleep less than an hour ago.

“Just listen for now. Raon said he has something to say.”

Glenn motioned toward Raon standing below the platform, as if telling Chamber and Larian to begin listening.

To think he triggered the emergency line, which is only used in crises…

Wrath furrowed his brow in disbelief.

That Nadine bread old man really isn’t normal either.

He shook his head, saying there wasn’t a single sane person in this household. There was no way to argue with that.

[This better not turn out to be something trivial!]

[Uuuuuh…]

Chamber ground her teeth in frustration, and Larian groaned drowsily as she looked at Raon.

“First, are there any other people with you two right now?”

Raon looked at Chamber and Larian and asked.

[I’m alone in my office.]

Chamber waved her half-eaten candy and said she was alone.

[I-I’m in my bedroom…]

Larian, embarrassed, pulled up a blanket with a teddy bear pattern.

“Then please cast a mana barrier so the sound doesn’t leak, and listen to what I have to say. I…”

Raon began his explanation, starting from the time he went out to the ocean with Rabawin to catch the ocean wolf.

“After that, we set out again to find the headquarters…”

Just as he got to the part about leaving for the ocean again with Evelyn after returning to Zieghart—

Wooooooong!

A square white window rose from Evelyn’s hand, and scenes of what they had experienced began to play.

“This is…”

“I cast a recording spell on my eyes. It’s easier to understand when you can see it.”

Evelyn smiled faintly and, whenever he explained, she would display the video from that time.

[Uh, hmm…]

[Why is it only showing Raon, though?]

Larian and Chamber frowned, saying that all they could see through Evelyn’s perspective was Raon’s face.

“Because Raon was right in front of me.”

Evelyn shrugged as if she wasn’t embarrassed at all.

[Kids these days are terrifying…]

[Mmm-hmm…]

Chamber and Larian rubbed their arms, on which goosebumps had risen, as if they were the ones who were embarrassed.

“It’ll start for real soon.”

In the video that had only been showing Raon, the White Blood Religion’s headquarters, submerged deep in the ocean, finally appeared.

[Ha! They hid like dogs. No wonder no one could find them.]

Chamber burst into a dry laugh, saying she never imagined the White Blood Religion would be hiding under the ocean.

[A Kraken large enough to carry an entire city on its back…]

Larian took a deep breath, wondering how such a massive body could withstand the pressure of the deep ocean.

“Under the ocean…”

Glenn also furrowed his brow, seemingly realizing that they couldn’t even take advantage of the information they had.

[If it’s that deep, even if we try a surprise attack, it won’t matter.]

Chamber clicked her tongue, saying that in such deep waters, ordinary warriors and even mages would be unable to exert their power.

[Looking at the sorcery, there seem to be a lot of things that weaken the power of magic and aura. If we attack from a distance, the Kraken might move and flee…]

Larian also furrowed her brows, saying it didn’t look easy to attack.

“That's why we have to step up.”

Evelyn stepped forward with a bright smile.

[How?]

[Y-You have a method?]

Chamber and Larian narrowed their eyes as they looked at Evelyn.

“As you saw in the footage, the Kraken uses camouflage like an octopus. And not just the camouflage it was naturally given, it shows even stronger species-specific traits. You two do know that an octopus is a cephalopod, of course?”

Evelyn smiled as she waggled her finger.

[Species traits and cephalopods… hmm!]

[Ah, don’t tell me…]

The two of them widened their eyes, as if realizing what Evelyn meant.

“Yes. With that method, it’ll come out on its own.”

Evelyn nodded with a smile.

“But there’s a lot to prepare. It’s not just linking one or two spells.”

She reached out, saying she would need the help of the two.

[Sounds good. This’ll be fun after a long while.]

Chamber nodded, saying her excitement was rising.

[Yeah! This seems like it’ll be fun.]

Larian threw off the blanket that had been covering her face and stepped forward. Just moments ago, she’d said she was sleepy enough to die, but the moment an intriguing magic came up, it was as if all of that had been forgotten.

“You two would know better, but for now let’s start by organizing the spells we’ll need. I think we should begin with one that enhances animal instinct…”

[No, we need to prepare a spell to dissolve the barrier first.]

[I-I think summoning should come first…]

The three of them were already deep into discussion, exchanging ideas about the magic.

“Huh…”

Raon let out a hollow breath, watching Evelyn, Larian, and Chamber discussing seriously.

‘Was this really something that could be done after all?’

When Evelyn had asked him to trust her, he had been worried, but now, seeing them in such a serious discussion, it really did seem like the plan had potential.

“Raon.”

As Raon blankly listened to the mages’ discussion, Glenn came up beside him.

“Looks like you’ve grown again in the meantime.”

Glenn gave a soft smile and patted Raon on the shoulder, as if he’d noticed that Raon’s Heart Sword had risen to a higher level.

“I was just lucky.”

Raon shook his head calmly.

“I only gave the ocean spirit the name Haerang and had a conversation with it, yet my Heart Sword’s level rose.”

“That wasn’t luck. Your actions and your disposition have influenced your swordsmanship as well.”

Glenn shook his head, saying it couldn’t simply be called luck.

“…Thank you.”

Raon bowed his head, saying he was grateful to hear that.

“The mages’ discussion won’t end anytime soon, so return to the annex building first.”

Glenn turned his gaze toward the annex building and curled his lips faintly.

“You have an important guest waiting.”
