The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman 942
Chapter 942
“Hmm…”
Raon turned to Karoon standing beside him.
“It’d be best if the Light Wind Palace master does it. You're the only one who can fully explain the war from start to finish.”
Karoon folded his arms and stepped back, signaling that he wouldn’t step forward himself.
Considering it was an official occasion, Karoon respectfully addressed Raon by his formal title as the Light Wind Palace master. Truly, Karoon remained a person of unwavering integrity.
“That’s absolutely correct. Our palace master was at the heart of all our plans.”
Burren nodded emphatically, fully agreeing with Karoon's statement.
“Not just the plans. He took part in every battle, inside the dimension, climbing the Black Tower, and even in that grueling fight against the Black Tower's master.”
Martha clenched her fist, eagerly urging Raon to share his impressive achievements.
“Today, Raon is the most handsome ever, so anything he does is fine.”
Runaan gave a thumbs-up, implying that being handsome meant Raon could do anything he wanted. Lately, she seemed convinced that good looks were the solution to everything.
“Hm.”
Raon moistened his dry lips and stepped forward.
“Raon!”
“My son!”
“Young master!”
Sylvia, Edgar, Sia, and the maids waved so vigorously that their arms looked ready to fall off. They probably didn’t know all the details, but it seemed they were aware that Raon had beheaded the Black Tower’s master.
“Well done! Raon!”
“Nephew! I knew you'd pull it off!”
On the opposite side from Sylvia, Aris and Balder also applauded with bright smiles.
“……”
Even Denier stood smiling alongside them, but there was something distinctly unsettling about his smile. It was clear, yet fundamentally different from the others.
What are you doing?! Hurry up and get this over with!
Wrath slapped Raon’s shoulder, urging him impatiently.
The King of Essence is starving! He wants to eat that homemade food you bragged about to Gluttony!
Wrath bit Raon's cheek, insisting they hurry up and return home quickly.
“Then I’ll explain from the beginning. We arrived in Montiro…”
Raon stepped forward, still bitten by Wrath, stepped forward and began recounting the events while facing the attention of everyone in the training ground.
“…and in the end, thanks to Lady Chamber unleashing her ultimate spell, a gap opened in the Black Tower master’s defense, allowing me to sever his head.”
Since only a very few had seen the Demon Kings, Raon deliberately ended his explanation after stating he had killed the Black Tower’s master and stepped back.
“So it’s true that you really did cut off the Black Tower master’s head…”
Balder gripped the railing so hard it bent out of shape.
“That’s my nephew! Everyone, look at him! That’s my nephew right there!”
He screamed loud enough to burst eardrums, his excitement overflowing.
“Can’t you shut up?”
Aris covered her ears and sharply smacked the back of Balder’s head with her palm.
“Only I have the right to call Raon my nephew!”
She ground her teeth, threatening to kill him if that dirty mouth called Raon nephew one more time.
“Th-Then what am I supposed to call him…”
“Just call him the Light Wind Palace master!”
Aris arrogantly tilted her chin, clearly indicating Balder should figure it out himself.
“Light Wind Palace master! I always believed in you!”
Balder obeyed her without hesitation, calling Raon Light Wind Palace master. His pride was nowhere to be seen.
“So you’ve been through another difficult battle…”
Sylvia’s eyes welled up, as if she could feel how harsh things had been from Raon’s brief explanation.
“Thank you, Sir Karoon…”
Edgar bowed his head toward Karoon, seemingly recognizing just how crucial Karoon’s role had been in this war.
“That’s my brother all right! Good job!”
Sia joyfully mimicked Balder, waving excitedly at Raon. With so many people cheering her brother’s name, she simply enjoyed the moment.
“Ahem!”
Just as the cheers and praise for Raon began turning into conversations, Glenn cleared his throat and rose to his feet.
“This war was our only chance to break the balance of the Five Kings and Five Demons.”
He nodded gravely toward Raon and Karoon.
“The Black Tower’s master resisted fiercely, even opening the gate of devildom. but the Light Wind Palace master pursued him to the very end and successfully took his head. Had the Archmage of Eternal Flame been defeated instead, we would be the ones forced to flee into hiding.”
Glenn looked at Raon with warm eyes.
“This war will be remembered throughout history, with the name Raon Zieghart engraved at its very center.”
He added that, even if Raon didn’t want it, it was inevitable.
“And it's not only the Light Wind Palace master. The Central Martial Palace master, as well as everyone who participated in this war, have accomplished feats worthy of being recorded for thousands of years. You have all endured much. You have my gratitude.”
Glenn expressed his gratitude as he drew Heavenly Tremor. He turned the sword upside down, performing Zieghart's formal salute with it.
“He-Head of house!”
“No, please! It was our duty!”
The swordsmen hastily bowed their heads in response, seemingly never having imagined that their head of house would personally thank them like this.
“Therefore, I shall grant all swordsmen who participated in this war a golden tablet and the right to select one treasure each from Zieghart’s treasury. And…”
Glenn raised a finger, pointing toward Raon and Karoon.
“For the Light Wind Palace master and the Central Martial Palace master, who endured the most grueling battles, I permit each of you to select five treasures from the treasury.”
As if his decision was final, Glenn immediately lowered his hand after concluding his words.
“Wooooaaaahhh!”
“What?! The head of house is letting them enter Zieghart’s treasury directly?”
“Elixirs, weapons, martial arts manuals, artifacts… there’s nothing that treasury doesn’t have!”
“What’s there to be surprised about? After taking down the Black Tower, this much reward is natural!”
“I think it’s rather insufficient. The palace masters deserve at least ten!”
The crowd nodded, agreeing that such rewards matched the magnitude of their achievements.
“Then, let us disperse. You’ve all worked hard.”
Glenn stepped down from the platform as soon as he finished announcing the rewards, as though he had gathered everyone solely for this reason.
He gave Raon a nod of approval before leaving the training ground.
‘I really can't tell what he's thinking….’
Raon smiled faintly, shaking his head slightly. As he turned around, his eyes met Denier, who was staring directly at him.
“……”
Denier was clapping along with the others, his lips drawn into a long smile as if he had gotten exactly what he wanted. Yet, his eyes were strangely empty, devoid of the joy of victory that others showed.
‘Denier Zieghart.’
Raon averted his gaze from Denier, pressing his lips together tightly.
‘Just what exactly are you thinking?’
* * *
“Haaah…”
Lecross let out a heavy sigh that seemed to shake the ground as he stared up at the white ceiling.
“How utterly pathetic.”
While Raon and Chamber had brought down the Black Tower, he couldn’t even handle Derus by himself and had to be saved by Glenn.
He felt too ashamed and embarrassed to even lift his face.
“I suppose I should send a gift to Zieghart.”
Raon had severed the Black Tower master’s head, and Glenn had saved his life. The true protagonists of this war were undoubtedly Zieghart.
Since he had been no help at all, he figured he should at least send them a worthy gift.
“Damn it! If only I had dodged that first strike…”
Lecross ground his teeth, recalling his fight against Derus.
BANG!
The hospital room door slammed open, and Chamber entered wearing her signature witch hat.
“Well, well! Look who we have here. The little guy who got smacked while guarding the house. What a sight!”
Chamber stuck out her tongue playfully at Lecross, who lay on the hospital bed.
“Weren’t you the one who said not to treat you like a kid after earning the nickname the Silent Sword Sovereign? Yet here you are, flat on your back after Derus poked you full of holes.”
She burst into hearty laughter, clearly having come to tease rather than comfort him.
“H-He was ridiculously strong!”
Lecross raised only his head and shook his fist.
“He was completely different from the last time I saw him! I thought I was fighting against Glenn himself!”
He yelled in frustration, insisting it wasn’t because he was weak. His current appearance was completely different from the dignified image he had maintained as the Silent Sword Sovereign and King of Owen.
“It’s been a while since I've seen the childish side of little Lecross. How adorable.”
Chamber lightly tapped Lecross on the head as he continued grinding his teeth in frustration.
“Go on, tell this sister everything.”
She nodded as if to say she’d listen to it all.
“Uh, let’s not call you sister, okay? There's quite an age gap…”
Lecross quickly waved his hands, regaining his composure upon hearing the word sister.
“You brat! Look at this youthful, springy skin!”
Chamber smacked Lecross on the forehead, annoyed at his comment about age.
“Hmm…”
Rubbing the spot where she’d hit him, Lecross narrowed his eyes.
“By the way, who’s the girl you brought with you?”
He tilted his head, looking at Rensia, who had been hiding behind Chamber.
“She’s my disciple.”
Chamber grinned and pushed Rensia forward.
“D-Disciple?”
“Yup. I discovered a gem in Montiro whose talent surpasses even mine. You’d better keep your expectations high. She’s the next Archmage.”
Chamber confidently raised her chin, clearly certain of Rensia’s future.
“H-Hello. My name is Rensia.”
The girl carefully bowed her head as she introduced herself. She appeared cute now, but Lecross sensed she would grow into a stunning beauty in the future.
“Hmm…”
Lecross clicked his tongue softly as he looked into her green eyes.
‘The Archmage’s disciple, huh.’
Chamber had taught many before, but it was exceptionally rare for her to personally declare someone as her disciple. And now, not only had she openly accepted a disciple, but she'd also confidently proclaimed her as the next Archmage. Clearly, something had changed in Chamber.
“I heard you were severely injured. Did that experience lead to some change of heart?”
Lecross lowered his hand and looked thoughtfully at Chamber.
“How could it not? I nearly died.”
Chamber smiled faintly and nodded.
“I may look fine on the outside, but my upper energy center was seriously damaged. I'll have to focus on recovery for a long while.”
She let out a deflated laugh, saying that if the Saintess Olga hadn’t been there, she really would have died.
“Not only Derus, who beat you down, but the Black Tower’s master was also incredibly powerful. It's only natural, given they've shattered the limits of humanity itself to achieve such strength.”
Chamber gently bit down on her red lip.
“That’s why I’m raising a successor now— so that I can fight without looking back.”
She clenched her fist, saying that in future wars, one had to be prepared to die.
“Hmm…”
Lecross sighed quietly, glancing toward Rensia.
“Is it really okay to say something like that in front of such a young disciple?”
“Don't worry. This child might have even stronger willpower than you.”
Chamber waved her hand dismissively, explaining Rensia had already experienced countless hardships and even faced death itself.
“Her eyes certainly show it.”
Lecross nodded before extending his hand politely to Rensia.
“I am Lecross. It seems we’ll see each other frequently from now on.”
He politely greeted young Rensia, treating her with the same courtesy he would an adult.
“I-I look forward to it as well, your majesty!”
Rensia nervously raised her trembling arm and shook Lecross' hand.
“I’ve come to realize a lot through this incident too.”
Lecross gently stroked Rensia’s head, his eyes narrowing.
“I’ve been living more as a king than a swordsman lately… but now, it seems it's time to immerse myself deeply in swordsmanship again.”
He clenched his teeth, clearly determined to get revenge on Derus.
“Revenge, huh? A good motivation. But we might not even get the chance.”
Chamber smiled and raised a finger.
“The wave coming after us is higher and approaching much faster than we expected.”
“You’re talking about the Sword Emperor, aren’t you?”
Lecross asked, nodding slightly, recognizing immediately that Chamber was talking about Raon.
“That’s right. Unlike yours, there’s nothing attached in front of his nickname, it’s just Sword Emperor. Why Silent Sword Sovereign, anyway? If you're a Sword Sovereign, be a Sword Sovereign. 'Silent' makes it sound so unimpressive and lame.”
Chamber shook her head, as if finding the nickname utterly pathetic.
“Grrgh…”
Lecross trembled with anger, as though deeply offended by the insult to his nickname.
“S-Silent Sword Sovereign is the name I got right after becoming a Transcender! If it happened now, it’d be something completely different!”
His face flushed red like a child as he protested to Chamber.
“Yep. You still turn red in the face when you get upset.”
Chamber chuckled and flicked Lecross on the forehead.
“Ugh…”
Lecross finally realized that Chamber had just been teasing him, lowering his head in embarrassment.
“Jokes aside, Raon is truly something special.”
“I’m already well aware of the boy’s incredible talent.”
“That’s not what I meant.”
Chamber chuckled and shook her head.
“Wanna hear something interesting? Even during the victory festival for the war, Raon was meditating, reflecting on his shortcomings from battle.”
She licked her lips lightly as she gazed out of the window toward the north.
“That kid won't stop at merely being a Sword Emperor. Of that, I'm absolutely certain.”
* * *
“Looks like everyone’s here.”
Glenn nodded as he looked at the swordsmen of the Light Wind Palace and Central Martial Palace gathered in the audience chamber.
“Then let’s skip the long talk and let’s begin right away.”
Glenn rested his arm on the throne and snapped his fingers.
Clack!
As the crisp sound resonated throughout the audience chamber, a golden dimensional gate opened in front of the Light Wind Palace and Central Martial Palace swordsmen.
“Follow me.”
Glenn stepped into the shimmering golden dimension and gestured for the swordsmen to enter.
“S-so this is Zieghart’s treasury...”
“I’ve seen it from afar before, but I never imagined I’d actually enter it myself.”
“Whew, I can't stop shaking.”
The swordsmen of the Light Wind and Central Martial Palaces trembled with emotion just from being allowed inside Zieghart’s treasury.
“Let’s go.”
Karoon, who had likely been inside before, nodded calmly and stepped into the golden dimension.
What are you doing?!
Wrath grabbed Raon’s shoulder and shook him impatiently.
Just quickly pick something, so we can finally go eat!
He clattered his teeth irritably, claiming he was starving to death.
‘I’ll feed you until your stomach bursts, so wait just a bit.’
Raon brushed Wrath aside and was about to enter Zieghart’s treasury when—
Wuuuuuung…
A blue message suddenly appeared in front of the golden dimensional gate.
[The trait <Greed> has been unlocked.]
