The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman 945
Chapter 945
“Phew.”
Raon let out a weary breath after laying the sleeping Olga down on the bed.
‘Is it morning already?’
They had entered the training chamber in the evening, but now golden sunlight was streaming through the window. It seemed the process of reconstructing her body had taken over twelve hours.
‘No wonder I’m so tired.’
He had spent twelve hours reconstructing someone else’s body using his aura and the energy of the elixirs. Even for a Transcender, it was only natural to be completely worn out.
That’s not all! You didn’t sleep the day before either!
Wrath gritted his teeth and pointed at the dark circles under Raon’s eyes.
You stayed up all night the day before to train, then stayed up all night yesterday for treatment. Why don’t you just give up sleeping altogether!
He scowled, saying that because of Raon, he hadn’t gotten a wink of sleep either.
‘Sorry. And…’
Raon gave a faint smile and waved his hand.
‘Thanks.’
Wrath hadn’t gotten a single wink of sleep either over the past two days, just to help lay the groundwork for Olga’s treatment.
He always acted cold and aloof, but out of everyone Raon knew, he was probably the warmest.
He’d heard there was a new batch of bead ice cream coming in next week. It might not be a bad idea to go out and buy some for him.
Chiiik.
Raon drew the curtains to let Olga sleep peacefully and stepped out of the room.
‘I’m seriously about to collapse. I need to sleep now.’
It wasn’t just staying up for two days. He had poured out both his physical strength and willpower. The drowsiness was overwhelming. He didn’t care about anything else, he just wanted to get to bed.
“Raon!”
He didn’t even have the energy to wash up and was heading straight for his room when Sia came running up from the front door.
“Let’s play!”
Since she hadn’t seen him at all yesterday, she tugged at his sleeve, saying they should play together today.
“Sorry.”
Raon patted her head and shook his head.
“I haven’t slept at all, so I think I need to rest a bit.”
He knew it probably wouldn’t work on a child as young as Sia, but he had no other choice at the moment.
“Hmm…”
Sia tilted her head as if thinking it over, then took a step back.
“Then you’ll play with me after you wake up, right?”
She blinked up at him, like she was checking if it was okay later instead of now.
“Of course.”
“Then I’ll wait. Sleep well!”
Sia gave a big wave and ran off toward the maids who were waiting nearby.
‘She really has changed.’
Raon smiled faintly as he looked at her back.
‘She’s matured a little.’
The old Sia would’ve whined and insisted they play no matter what, but today, she understood his situation and accepted it.
He had already noticed it during dinner, but her mind seemed to be growing at a rapid pace.
‘Ugh, my head hurts. I’ll think about it later. I just need to sleep.’
Raon opened the door to his room, went in, and flopped onto the bed.
Not happening!
Just as he was about to drift off, a puff of blue cotton candy floated up in front of his eyes.
Eat before you sleep! If you don’t eat now, you’ll end up going the whole day without food again!
Wrath furrowed his brows, as if the idea of missing another meal was simply unacceptable.
‘You’re seriously thinking about food right now?’
Of course! For the King of Essence, food always comes before sleep!
He tilted his chin as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
‘How the hell did you end up with <Wrath> as your authority instead of <Gluttony>?’
Raon pushed Wrath’s head aside with a trembling hand.
‘If I ever go to the devildom, I’m going straight to the Demon God and demanding an explanation.’
Even in this sleep-deprived state, Wrath was nagging about food first. No matter how he looked at it, this guy’s authority should’ve been <Gluttony>, not <Wrath>.
Enough with the nonsense. Just eat something!
Wrath waved a hand toward the door, saying breakfast was already being prepared in the dining room.
‘I don’t even have the strength to lift a fork.’
Raon shook his head weakly.
Which is exactly why you need to eat!
Wrath shook his head violently in return.
The King of Essence isn’t saying this because he’s hungry! It’s for your sake! You’re at an age where skipping meals and sleeping on an empty stomach is terrible for your growth!
‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’
Raon let out a breathy chuckle.
‘That was so ridiculous it actually woke me up a little.’
There was no way Wrath was telling him to eat for his sake. He was just hungry, plain and simple.
I-it’s true! The King of Essence only said it for your health…
‘So what you’re saying is, it’s bad to go to sleep hungry?’
Exactly! You should eat something, anything!
Wrath nodded quickly, eyes shining with anticipation.
‘Then don’t worry about it.’
Raon gave a sly grin and pulled out his subspace pocket.
‘It’s packed with food that’ll fill us right up.’
R-really? When did you prepare all that?
Wrath’s mood instantly brightened as he licked his lips.
‘The best food to instantly fill you up.’
He reached into the subspace pocket and pulled out a loaf of bread, perfectly browned on the outside.
W-wait! That’s Nadine bread!
Wrath flailed both arms in alarm like he was trying to stop a disaster in motion.
‘Correct.’
S-stop! Just stop right there!
Ignoring Wrath, who looked like he’d rather starve, Raon bit into the Nadine bread.
The moment he bit into the rock-hard loaf, reeking of burnt rubber, his stomach filled in an instant. As always, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call Nadine bread’s effect transcendent—though its taste begged to differ.
Uuurrgghh…
Wrath collapsed backward, his face pale as if his very appetite had been obliterated.
You wretched bastard!
He furiously scrubbed his tongue with his palm, eyes brimming with tears.
The best food? That? That’s the single worst thing humanity has ever created! You can’t even use it as fertilizer!
He bit down on his lip, trembling with fury, muttering that Nadine bread was a food that needed to be erased from existence.
‘You’d better get used to it.’
Raon chuckled quietly, watching Wrath writhe in agony.
‘Once we’re in that cave, it’s all we’re gonna be eating for a while.’
There it is again! That cave! What cave are you even talking about!?
‘Well…’
Now that his stomach was full, the overwhelming drowsiness crashed in. Without answering, Raon drifted off to sleep.
Krrrrghhh…
Wrath clenched his trembling fists as he looked at the peacefully sleeping Raon.
He couldn't keep living like this… getting toyed with by some human brat! That’s it—he was just gonna die!
He started choking himself with both hands, thrashing about in a dramatic fit.
But when Raon didn’t move an inch, clearly fast asleep, Wrath sighed and slumped down next to him.
Fine then. He’ll die after you wake up.
With that parting grumble, he slipped under Raon’s blanket and slowly closed his eyes.
Gorororong…
In the room where a human and a demon king had fallen asleep, only one rhythm of breathing could be heard, so similar in tone, it sounded like just one person was sleeping.
“Uhm.”
Olga’s eyes shot open, startled.
‘Where am I…?’
Above her was a ceiling, elegant and clean, like it had been carefully maintained over time.
‘Is this… my room?’
The ceiling looked familiar. It seemed she was back in the guest room of the annex building where she had been staying.
She remembered collapsing in the training chamber, so she had no idea why she had woken up here.
‘Did Raon carry me?’
Given the situation, that had to be it.
‘He even took the time to carry me back... What a monster.’
Raon had to be in worse shape than she was—more pain, more fatigue. And even so, he’d still made sure she was looked after until the very end. That in itself was unbelievable.
‘But why… does my body feel so refreshed?’
Ever since her holy power had gone out of control, she had woken up every morning with splitting headaches. But today, strangely, her head was completely clear, like she’d returned to childhood.
‘Did… the treatment actually work?’
She had been too consumed by pain to know what was happening, so she had no idea how the treatment had gone.
The last thing she remembered was Raon telling her that it was okay to rest. That was when she lost consciousness. She wanted to know if the treatment had really been a success.
‘I’ll know once I see Raon.’
As she slowly sat up, her eyes fell on her right arm, and she froze.
“Huh…?”
The skin that had once melted and blackened, covered in hideous tattoos, now held the soft glow of fresh, unblemished skin, like that of a newborn child.
“What… What is this…?”
Olga’s eyes darted frantically around the room.
“All the black marks… they’re gone?”
It wasn’t just her right arm. The scars and tattoos that had covered her left leg and right leg had vanished without a trace.
She quickly jumped up and ran to the mirror, and found that even the worst areas, her chest and back, which had been the most damaged, were completely healed. It felt like she was dreaming.
“For real…”
She dropped to her knees in front of the mirror, biting her trembling lip.
“Did I… really heal completely?”
What woman, or rather, what person, wouldn’t want to look good?
She, too, had often wished to look her age, to be seen as beautiful, nothing grand, just ordinary, natural.
But she had given that up.
She had thrown away her appearance, even her lifespan, to chase something greater. To save lives. That was all she allowed herself to care about.
She never once thought… that the things she sacrificed would come back to her.
Pinch.
She reached up and pinched her own cheek with her fingers.
‘It’s not a dream.’
This really was her. Her body.
Something she hadn’t dared to imagine, not even in her dreams, had become real, and her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it would burst.
Joy and disbelief rushed in at once, so overwhelming she couldn’t speak.
‘What’s even more surprising… is how my body feels now.’
Ever since her body began to fall apart, even channeling her holy power brought pain like her flesh was being torn apart.
But now, despite all the holy energy swirling inside her, it just felt… cool. Refreshing.
‘Let’s try it.’
Olga gathered a large amount of holy power into her hand. Before, even this would’ve made her skin feel like it was melting off.
But now, nothing. No pain.
“Haha… ha…”
She covered her face with the hand glowing with holy power, laughing softly through trembling breaths.
‘He… really did it.’
To be honest, when Raon said he would fix her condition, she hadn’t expected anything. She believed in his strength, but when it came to healing, she had always seen herself as the more capable one.
This body, this condition, was something even she had long since abandoned. She’d been certain. It was impossible to fix.
She had only gone along with it, hoping to satisfy her benefactor, she never imagined she’d walk away with a new body.
‘How am I supposed to repay something like this?’
Come to think of it, even in Montiro had only been her way of paying back the debt she owed him.
But this? Raon had done something not even a god could manage, and all in a single day.
What could she possibly give him in return?
“…Wait.”
Had I even thanked him?
Thinking back, she’d blacked out right after the treatment. She hadn’t even managed a proper thank you.
“Damn it!”
Olga jumped to her feet and ran out of the room.
Thud.
Just as she was about to dash toward Raon’s room, Sylvia suddenly appeared in the hallway.
“Oh my?”
Sylvia’s eyes widened as she looked at her.
“Wait… Are you the Saintess?”
“Ah, yes…”
Olga stopped in place and gave a small nod.
“Oh my goodness! I heard Raon was treating you, but I never imagined you’d change so much!”
Sylvia smiled gently, saying she looked far more beautiful now.
“And seeing you up close, you’re younger than I expected. This look suits you much better.”
She nodded again, as if genuinely impressed by how radiant Olga looked now, almost incomparable to before.
“Th-thank you…”
Olga averted her eyes. Sylvia was not only the mother of her benefactor, but there was also something about her presence that made her difficult to face.
“Um… Where is Raon right now?”
She asked, saying there was something she needed to tell him.
“Why are you looking for him?”
Sylvia tilted her head gently.
“He… helped me.”
Olga bit her lip and looked down at her feet.
“He did so much for me… I don’t even know how to begin repaying him…”
She clutched a handful of her purple hair in frustration, as if the weight of the debt was too much.
“It’s simple.”
Sylvia smiled and lifted a finger.
“Just say thank you.”
“I mean, of course I’ll do that, but… it feels too simple. What he did for me… I can’t even put a value on it.”
It wasn’t just the two highest grade elixirs.
Raon had spent twelve whole hours using his aura to reconstruct her body, something no ordinary person could ever hope to do.
There was no way a simple thank you could ever convey how much that meant.
“Raon’s not the kind of person who expects anything in return for helping someone.”
Sylvia shook her head and gently took Olga’s hand.
“Raon only reached out to you because he sees you as a friend.
Just a simple thank you is more than enough for him.”
She smiled softly, saying her son was not someone who acted out of greed.
“R-really…?”
Even after hearing those words, Olga bit her lip, still looking unsure.
“Yes, really.”
Sylvia nodded calmly, without a hint of hesitation.
“My son’s never been the type to expect anything in return.”
“…I see.”
At that, Olga lowered her head, her eyes welling with emotion. She looked down at her arms, now spotless and whole, and a slow tear slid down her cheek.
“It’s all right.”
Sylvia gently embraced her.
It was a touching moment.
But neither of them noticed the voice of a certain demon king.
Even it’s you, mom… The King of Essence can’t let that slide!
Wrath exploded out from behind the door, howling in fury.
That pig? No greed!? What the hell are you even looking at!? If that brat had been born in the devildom, he would've stolen the title of <Greed> for himself! No doubt about it, guaranteed!
* * *
“Yaaawn…”
Raon stretched and slowly opened his eyes.
‘That was the best sleep I’ve had in ages.’
He didn’t know how long he had slept, but for the first time since the war, his body felt as light as a feather. His once-drained stamina and mental strength felt completely recharged.
‘You feel the same, don’t you?’
Raon tilted his chin at Wrath, who was floating in the air.
Because of you, he didn’t sleep a wink! He’s still furious!
Wrath clenched his fist, openly revealing his rage.
‘You’re mad? At me?’
You ate Nadine bread before bed! Of all the low things… that was the worst of the worst!
His shoulders trembled as he grumbled that the rubbery smell was still lingering in his mouth.
‘Sorry. I wasn’t in the right mind at the time.’
If you lose your mind one more time, he swears, that bread will be the death of the King of Essence!
Wrath ground his teeth, muttering that his cause of death would’ve been Nadine Bread, ingested under duress.
‘Don’t be so dramatic. From now on, I’ll get you something you actually like…’
Raon laughed and reached out to pat Wrath on the head, when he suddenly sensed a faint presence by the window.
He turned his gaze and saw an old man with blond hair and red eyes staring at him through the window.
“Head of house?”
It was Glenn, standing silently at the window. He curled a finger, beckoning Raon to come, then disappeared.
‘Already finished preparing it, huh?’
Raon opened the window and stepped outside. He walked to the lakeside and stood next to Glenn.
“You just woke up, I see. Looks like I came at just the right time.”
Glenn nodded with his usual calm, as if he’d only just arrived.
Right time, my ass. He’s been standing out here the whole damn time.
Wrath shook his head, muttering that the old man was still full of nonsense.
“I haven’t had any fresh inspiration for new martial arts lately. And the techniques I used in the past... I doubt they’d be of much help to you now.”
Glenn smacked his lips briefly and handed over a thick book. The cover read Heavenly Lightning of the Azure Sky, and it smelled freshly inked—as if it had been written recently.
“It’s a martial art that properly combines the techniques of the Azure Sky Sword and the Heavenly Lightning Cultivation. You can use them together—or on their own.”
Glenn had once explained that the Heavenly Lightning Cultivation flowed well together with the Azure Sky Sword when he taught it to him, but now it seemed he had combined them completely.
“Thank you.”
Raon bowed as he received the Heavenly Lightning of the Azure Sky.
“Truly…”
Even granting him five treasures through the Zieghart treasury hadn’t been the end of it.
Glenn had gone even further—personally merging the Azure Sky Sword and the Heavenly Lightning Cultivation—just for him.
Words like thank you weren’t nearly enough to express what he was feeling.
[You have obtained the item you desired]
[Trait <Greed> has been activated]
[All stats have increased]
[The stat of the trait <Greed> has increased]
Because he received the martial art he wanted, <Greed> activated. It was faint, but he could feel his soul becoming sturdier, a little more stronger than before.
Unbelievable. The King of Essence is going insane here. He was already stomach-turning enough, now he’s gotten even worse!
Wrath’s ice-blue eyes flared as he growled in frustration, clearly on the verge of losing it.
“It’s nothing compared to what you’ve done.”
Glenn waved his hand, saying it was no big deal compared to Raon defeating the Black Tower’s master.
“I was going to demonstrate the Heavenly Lightning of the Azure Sky for you, but you look tired. We’ll do that another time.”
He turned around as if to head back.
“Please wait a moment.”
Raon raised his hand. He’d already received so much from Glenn that it felt a little shameless to bring this up now, but there was something he had to say.
“I’d like to ask you for a request, head of house.”
“A request? What is it?”
Glenn nodded calmly, as if willing to listen to anything.
“I’d like to make use of the opportunity you granted me before.”
Raon looked into Glenn’s red eyes and clenched his fist.
“Please grant me access to the Chamber of Self.”
