The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman 905

 Chapter 905

No energy of death at all? That's impossible...?

Wrath scoffed but then froze in place.

Wait a moment. Now that he thinks about it, there’s no demonic energy either…

His blue eyes quivered as he said that the demonic energy he could normally sense had completely vanished.

‘Are you serious? You really can’t sense any demonic energy?’

Seeing Wrath gasp for breath, Raon swallowed hard.

It is certain. Though the King of Essence in a spirit form and his senses are not perfect, he should still be able to detect demonic energy.

Wrath nodded confidently, assuring him.

‘Normally, negative energy like the energy of death or demonic energy should exist everywhere, right?’

Raon bit his lip slightly as he gazed up at the clear sky of Montiro.

Not everywhere, but anywhere humans exist.

Wrath slowly shook his head.

You wouldn’t understand, since you’re barely human, but humans are incredibly complicated creatures. They can be overjoyed after earning a single gold coin, only to be consumed by envy and anger when their neighbor earns ten.

Wrath clicked his tongue, saying that humans were far more troublesome than even demons or celestials.

Because they are such complex beings, they naturally exhale negativity, much like how animals shed fur. Energy of death and demonic energy seep out of them simply as they breathe. Of course, the amount is usually minuscule, not enough to have any harmful effects. But…

Wrath raised his round hand and struck the air.

There’s not even the slightest trace of demonic energy on this land. As long as humans are gathered, this doesn’t make sense.

His eyes flickered as he murmured that there must be something hidden at play.

‘I think so too.’

Raon nodded slightly as he turned his gaze forward.

‘Until now, there’s never been a place where I couldn’t feel the energy of death.’

Ever since leaving Zieghart, Raon had been using the <Energy of Death Detection> trait. Even in small villages, with only a few people, he could feel at least a small trace of it. But here, in Montiro, not even the faintest trace existed.

‘Let’s try again.’

Raon activated the trait again, but no energy of death was sensed anywhere. It felt like the whole world was clean and transparent, like looking at a pure, clear spring at dawn.

It’s the same for me.

Wrath furrowed his brow deeply.

The King of Essence still can’t sense any demonic energy. It’s as if it doesn’t exist at all.

He bit his lip, finding the situation beyond strange.

‘Whatever is going on here…’

Raon clenched his fingers slightly as he observed the people around him, laughing and enjoying themselves.

‘Something about this place is definitely off.’

The words that the Demonblade had spoken before his death started to weigh heavier in Raon’s mind. Of course, things were just beginning.

"Are we almost there? I really need to buy something quickly!"

Dorian stomped his feet impatiently, urging Rensia.

“It’s right over there. The most expensive lodging is on the hill for the best view.”

Rensia, their guide, smiled as she pointed to a building atop the hill. It was a pristine white structure designed in the shape of rolling waves, its well-maintained exterior gleaming in the sunlight, exuding luxury.

"Wow, that looks expensive."

Krein, with his greatsword slung over his shoulder, whistled as his eyes widened.

"Then stay at an ordinary lodging."

Raon played his part as a wealthy, arrogant merchant, tilting his chin up.

"No, sir! I have to protect you!"

Krein immediately straightened, shaking his head with fierce determination.

"Please let me go! Please!"

Dorian begged, clearly more focused on buying things quickly than staying at the expensive lodging.

“Sigh…”

Raon smacked Dorian on the back of the head, muttering for him to get moving.

“You three are merchants, right?”

Rensia blinked her green eyes curiously. She had black hair and light green eyes. Though she appeared cute now, she looked like she would grow into a stunning beauty in the future.

“Yeah. I pick up whatever I can to make a living.”

Raon yawned and nodded.

"Young master! A proper owner of a trading company shouldn't speak like that! Take pride in your work!"

Dorian clenched his fist, demanding that Raon show the proper attitude of a merchant.

“Then you have it. Want me to hand it over to you?”

Raon waved his hand dismissively, saying he didn’t need such things.

“M-me? How could I…”

Dorian, despite being the official heir to the massive Sephia Company, trembled and mumbled, as if the very idea weighed him down.

“Then just shut up and follow me. Both of you.”

Raon gestured for Dorian and Krein to keep quiet.

‘They’re surprisingly good at this.’

Dorian was so immersed in the act that there was nothing to criticize, and Krein played his role as a slightly dim-witted bodyguard naturally. At this rate, no one would suspect them.

‘Still, we have to be careful.’

He suspected that this place might be the heart of the Black Tower.

Steeling himself for whatever might come, Raon followed Rensia up the hill.

“We’re here!”

After a long walk, Rensia finally stopped and pointed to the right.

“This is Montiro’s finest hotel, Valorence!”

She dramatically stretched her arm toward the massive building, as if she owned the place. Given her young age, the gesture came across as nothing but cute.

“You can enter through that entrance over there!”

Rensia smiled, pointing to the hotel entrance.

“Aren’t you coming in?”

Raon raised an eyebrow as he looked at Rensia. It was strange that, typically, guides would introduce the accommodation and then wait to receive a tip from the manager, but she stood there, not moving.

“Oh, I have to take care of the wagon.”

Rensia shook the reins of the horse in her small hands and smiled.

“Alright.”

Raon nodded and turned toward the entrance of the hotel—only to stop as the door swung open.

A gray-haired butler in a well-fitted suit stepped outside.

“Welcome to Valorence, the hotel with the finest view in Montiro.”

The butler placed his hand over his chest and bowed slightly toward Raon, Dorian, and Krein.

“I am Apel, the manager of Valorence.”

He straightened his posture and introduced himself.

“Kayden.”

Raon gave the name of the company's president he was currently disguised as.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Kayden.”

Despite the curt introduction, Apel remained composed and smiling.

“Rensia, did you bring these gentlemen here?”

Apel nodded, looking at Rensia, who was trying to pull the wagon to the outside of the hotel.

“Ah, yes!”

Rensia giggled and walked up to Apel.

“Then you should have said so, silly girl.”

Apel stroked Rensia's hair, as if he had known her for a long time, and handed her a tip.

“…”

Raon narrowed his eyes slightly as he watched Rensia’s reaction.

‘Her hands are trembling?’

Rensia's hand, which was behind her back, was trembling slightly.

‘Is it from handling the wagon for so long?’

She had been holding the reins all the way up the hill, so it made sense that her hands might be weak from the strain.

Tsk tsk. Making a little girl work like this.

Wrath clicked his tongue, sounding disappointed.

‘I don’t have a choice. Right now, I’m not Raon Zieghart, I’m Kayden, the carefree president of the trading company.’

Raon clicked his tongue, shaking his head. It was fine to show off wealth, but it wouldn’t suit his current character to be overly kind.

‘Hmm…’

Raon glanced at Apel, the manager of Valorence, who was having a friendly conversation with Rensia. He licked his lips.

‘I don’t feel anything from that person either.’

Given that he managed a hotel of this massive scale, he should be connected to the underworld in some way, but Raon didn’t sense any negative energy—no aura, no energy of death, or demonic energy—nothing at all from Apel. He was, in every sense, just an ordinary old man.

“Please, come in. I will guide you to a room with a stunning view of the emerald sea.”

After finishing his conversation with Rensia, Apel gestured for them to follow.

“Not just a good view. The best room.”

Raon tossed him a gold coin, making it clear that money was no concern.

“Haha, understood.”

Apel nodded reassuringly and bowed slightly before personally opening the door for them.

As Raon stepped through the door Apel had opened, they entered the hotel.

Under a cathedral-like ceiling, a grand chandelier hung majestically, casting radiant beams of light as if to welcome them.

‘It’s certainly luxurious…’

His gaze swept across the hotel’s interior, which seemed to be the very definition of opulence.

‘Then why does it feel so dark?’

*   *   *

“Hmm.”

Raon clicked his tongue again as he stepped out of the hotel.

‘It really is nice.’

As the best hotel in Montiro, Valorence had decorated the room in a way that was both extravagant and immaculate.

But its true highlight was the sea-facing window—an entire wall made of reinforced glass, allowing for an unobstructed view of the sea. It was the kind of sight one could stare at all day without growing bored.

“Ah, money sure is wonderful.”

Krein clicked his tongue as if he didn’t want to leave the room.

“C-can we go to the market now? There’s so much I need to buy!”

Dorian, sounding like someone suffering from withdrawal, stammered, shouting that he needed supplies.

“Not yet.”

Raon shook his head, pressing down on Dorian’s trembling shoulders.

"Let's get a general tour first and then split up."

“That’s right.”

“Ugh…”

Krein nodded as if it was only natural, but Dorian let out a deep, agonized sigh.

“Where should we go first? It’s still daylight, so we can go anywhere.”

Rensia stepped forward with a bright smile.

Food! First, we need to eat!

Wrath shot up his hand enthusiastically and urged Raon to shout for food.

“Hm…”

Raon glanced at Rensia’s hand, noting that the trembling had subsided. Then, he nodded.

“Let’s eat first.”

“Understood! I’ll take you to a restaurant that serves the finest seafood!”

Rensia, seemingly familiar with their preferences by now, took the lead and began descending the hill.

“Let’s go.”

“Yes.”

“Yeah…”

Raon gave Dorian a light tap on the back of the neck before following her.

Shortly after leaving the hotel, Rensia stopped in front of a restaurant with a blue sign near the beach.

“This place, Seascape, serves the best seafood in all Montiro!”

She raised her thumb, explaining that both the ingredients and the chef here were top-notch.

“Top-notch, huh…”

Raon smacked his lips briefly before pushing open the restaurant’s door.

“You’re not coming in?”

Dorian frowned, noticing Rensia settling on the step outside.

“Huh? Oh, I’ll just wait here.”

Rensia shook her head as if the thought of entering had never even crossed her mind.

“But you’re hungry, aren’t you?”

“Oh, I brought some bread.”

She casually pulled a piece of bread from her blue backpack, smiling as if there was nothing wrong.

“President…”

Dorian looked at Raon, silently urging him to let Rensia eat with them.

“….”

Raon lowered his gaze and stared at Rensia intently.

“N-no, it’s okay! This place is really expensive! I can’t afford to eat here.”

Rensia waved her hands, signaling that it was beyond her budget.

“Expensive?”

Raon furrowed his brows deeply.

“Follow me. And don’t ever say that word in front of me again.”

He clicked his tongue as if his pride was hurt and gestured with his finger.

“Uh, yes?”

“I said, come.”

With that, Raon stepped into the restaurant.

‘Dorian set this up well.’

If he had tried to persuade Rensia out of kindness, she would have refused outright, and it might have seemed suspicious. But since the conversation centered on money, it was only natural for him to insist that she join them.

Kyahhh!

Wrath let out a gasp of admiration, overwhelmed by the aroma of butter and seafood filling the restaurant.

Yes! This is exactly the sort of luxury befitting the King of Essence!

He motioned for Raon to order everything on the menu.

“Welcome!”

The restaurant owner, clad in a black vest, bowed deeply in greeting.

“Oh, Rensia?”

He lifted his head and widened his eyes upon seeing her.

“These are the guests you brought?”

"Yes! They said they wanted to go to the best restaurant!"

Rensia nodded with a bright smile, just as she had when meeting the hotel manager.

“I see! You really are something!”

The owner, looking touched, bit his lip slightly before tossing a silver coin her way.

“A-ah…”

Rensia reached out to catch it, but in doing so, she dropped the bread she had been holding.

“S-sorry!”

Flustered, she quickly bent down to pick up both the bread and the silver coin. But her hands trembled, causing her to drop the coin several times before managing to hold onto it.

“Here.”

Dorian picked up the coin and handed it to her.

“Thank you!”

Rensia bowed, flashing a bright smile as if nothing had happened.

“A table for four, including her.”

Raon gestured to the owner, instructing him to seat them.

“For Rensia as well? Ah, of course! Please, follow me to a window seat!”

Since it wasn’t uncommon for guides to be treated to meals, the owner led them to a table without hesitation.

“What would you like to order?”

“Bring everything.”

After scanning the menu, Raon tossed another gold coin onto the table.

“We’ll have it ready immediately!”

The restaurant owner bowed deeply before hurrying to the kitchen, as if afraid Raon might change his mind.

You… you…

Wrath stammered, his lips trembling in disbelief.

‘What? Did you notice something?’

That’s not it! He realized something far more important!

‘Something more important?’

Yes! He has realized that whenever you disguise yourself as a rich man, you order way more food than you can eat! Can’t you just stay disguised like this all the time?

He wasn't discovering demonic energy or energy of death, but drawing a long smile as if he was enjoying the situation.

“…”

Raon stared down at him with cold, dead eyes.

‘Once this mission is over, you’re getting a Nadine bread feast.’

*   *   *

Keeuuu!

Wrath let out a deep, satisfied sigh after finishing the meal.

This is truly the best restaurant! The ingredients were fresh, and the cooking was flawless!

He patted his round belly, saying he had a satisfying meal for the first time in a while.

"Let's get up now."

Raon placed his empty glass down and stood up.

"U-um, excuse me…."

Rensia, who had been glancing around nervously, raised her head a little.

“Would it be okay if I took the leftover food with me?”

She gestured to the dishes that had barely been touched, looking uncertain.

“Oh! Sure, no problem!”

Dorian nodded immediately, encouraging her to take them.

“But it’s seafood. It won’t taste as good if you don’t eat it today.”

Krein blinked, wondering if it would be alright.

“Ah, I want to bring it home for my younger siblings.”

Rensia chuckled as she mentioned her siblings.

“Oh, you have siblings?”

“Then it should be fine. But leave the raw seafood. It could upset their stomachs.”

Dorian and Krein, moved by the thought of her younger siblings, personally helped pack up the food.

“…”

Raon watched them for a moment, then settled the bill and stepped out of the restaurant.

He thought you might order her fresh dishes to take home.

Wrath tilted his head, surprised.

‘The person I’m pretending to be, Kayden, isn’t the type to show that kind of warmth.’

Raon shrugged.

‘Of course, if I wanted to flaunt my money, maybe I would. But that’s enough for now.’

Smirking slightly, he made his way down toward the beach below the restaurant.

‘There’s no energy of death here either.’

Neither the restaurant nor the beach and sea before him held any trace of it.

‘Whether it’s the Black Tower or not, there has to be some special barrier or artifact set up here.’

The real question was how to find it.

‘What should I do…’

Raon tapped his temple in thought, smacking his lips. That was when Dorian and Krein approached him from behind.

“The water is so clear. I can see everything.”

Krein sighed in amazement at the view of the sea.

"Yeah, we could use all that as merchandise, couldn't we?"

“Dorian, looking at the sea, licked his lips slowly.”

“You two…”

Raon let out a short sigh, shaking his head.

“Just get to work. You’re wasting time here.”

Raon thought it might be better to send Dorian off soon, as he seemed like he was about to lose it.

“Ah! Yessir!”

“Understood.”

While Dorian answered eagerly, Krein simply nodded and left the beach.

“So, where to next?”

Rensia gripped the straps of her backpack tightly, bowing her head slightly as she asked.

“Next is—”

It was when Raon was about to speak, looking at the shallow waves hitting the beach.

“Well, well, who do we have here?”

A middle-aged man with black hair, someone Raon had never seen before, raised a hand in greeting with a friendly smile.

“It’s been a long time.”
