The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman 840
Chapter 840
"A hastily built bridge…"
Sif swept his red hair back and nodded.
"Yeah. That's the only way you could think about it."
He smiled faintly, as if he fully understood.
"It's not just the only way to think about it, it's the truth, isn't it?"
Rimmer tapped his own shoulder lightly with his leaf sword.
"I've lived quite a long time, but I've neither heard nor seen someone ascending to Transcendence in such a way."
There had never been a story in the continent’s history of someone reaching Transcendence by stealing another’s power.
Sif was undoubtedly exuding the energy wave of a Transcender, but there had to be a weakness.
"Then feel it for yourself. Whether I show a flaw or not!"
Sif stomped his foot with a twisted smile. Waves of immense aura surged around him, rippling violently. It was the absolute energy wave that only a Transcender could emanate.
Kugugugu!
Sif charged forward as if he intended to end it in one strike. The sharpness of his blade was so intense that it felt like it would pierce through Rimmer's eyes.
"There must be a weakness somewhere."
Bending his left knee, Rimmer infused blue wind into the leaf sword. As the refreshing energy erased the scent of blood, he moved forward, unleashing the true essence of the Annihilating Wind Sword.
Kuwaaang!
Neither Rimmer nor Sif dodged each other’s swords. Sword strike met sword strike head-on, shaking the entire cavern violently.
"Ugh…"
Rimmer let out a dull groan as he was flung backward. Forcing strength into his trembling grip, he frowned.
"How is it?"
On the other hand, Sif hadn’t been pushed back a single step and smirked slyly.
"Do you see any flaws?"
"This isn't enough to tell."
Rimmer shook his head as he brushed off the remnants of Sif's energy lingering in his hand.
‘This is no joke.’
Even though it was just one clash, his insides churned. It wasn't internal damage, but the shock was significant. It meant he was completely outmatched in both physical strength and aura.
‘I should avoid fighting him head-on.’
Sif's physical strength and aura level were undeniably at the level of a warrior who had reached Transcendence long ago.
If he fought head-on, he wouldn’t last a few moves before losing limbs.
"Not enough, huh…"
Sif nodded calmly.
"Then I’ll just have to show you more."
He bent his wrist forward and raised the black sword upright. The moment he focused the blade’s edge into a single point as if to thrust, a blue light flashed before Rimmer’s eyes.
‘Space sword!’
Rimmer hurriedly lowered his stance, summoning the wind of Garunua.
Kwadddd!
A sharp slash that tore through space and cut down Garunua's wind. It was so skillfully executed that it could rival Aris' space sword.
"……."
Wiping the blood trickling down his cheek, Rimmer swallowed dryly.
‘What is this?’
Sif's space sword was the real deal. It made him doubt his earlier judgment that Sif would reveal a flaw.
‘No, even so, I have to keep going.’
From the moment the fight started, doubting his own judgment was not an option. He had to trust himself and move forward.
Whoosh.
Wrapping himself in the winds of the Light Wind Flow, Rimmer reached Sif’s left side. Planting his left foot firmly, he slashed upward with his sword he had kept at his thigh.
The wind of Garunua that had been condensed was released and an incredible amount of energy exploded.
"You're fast."
Sif let out a small exclamation as he angled his black sword diagonally. It wasn’t a defensive move, he unleashed a space slash, aiming to bite into Rimmer's neck.
‘I can't dodge.’
If he backed away, space slashes would rain down from all directions. Trusting in his own sword, he charged forward aggressively.
Paaaaaang!
As the leaf sword and the black sword crossed, the blue wind and the space slash collided.
A deafening crash, like thousands of glass shards shattering, echoed as a dark crack spread through the center of the cavern.
Chiiiiik!
Both Rimmer and Sif were pushed back five steps, glaring at each other.
However, unlike the composed Sif, Rimmer's face had turned ashen.
Drip.
Rimmer trembled as he looked at the blood dripping from his shoulder.
"How…"
Paras had said that Sif hadn’t learned the space sword before leaving Aris.
But now, Sif was flawlessly wielding the space sword even at close range. Contrary to expectations, no flaws could be seen.
"Looks like you’re starting to believe now."
Sif nodded as if he had expected this reaction.
"Just as you felt, I have ascended to Transcendence."
"…That makes no sense."
Rimmer bit his lip as he glared at Sif.
"It's impossible to make someone else reach Transcendence through magic, sorcery, or martial arts!"
It was true that Sif stood closer to Transcendence than either himself or Raon.
However, reaching Transcendence not through his own breakthrough but by stabbing Aris was something that would upset the balance of the world.
"What if it’s not human power?"
Sif planted his black sword into the ground and shook his head.
"What…?"
"Rimmer, you’ve spent a lifetime with grandfather, so I guess I can tell you."
He smirked, as if finding it amusing.
"The blood of the celestial flows in the humans of Zieghart."
"Celes…tial?"
Rimmer’s eyes wavered as if struck by a storm.
"As you said, it’s true that with human abilities alone, it’s impossible to steal someone’s power and ascend to Transcendence. But with the power of the celestial, it’s a different story."
"Then what you did to Aris…"
Rimmer swallowed dryly and looked at Aris, lying on Dorian’s back.
"Yes."
Following Rimmer's gaze, Sif smirked.
"I took the power contained in my mother’s blood and accepted it into the vessel of the celestial. That’s why, as you said, it resulted in something no human could achieve."
He shrugged his shoulders as if to say it should now make sense.
"No, I still don’t understand."
Rimmer shook his head as he stared at Sif.
"How did you find out that Zieghart's blood was mixed with the celestial's blood, and what method did you use to steal the power?"
"By researching the celestial and my own body."
Sif pointed to his head with his finger and said he had even opened his skull for the research.
"Researching the celestial and your body…"
Rimmer’s fingertips, holding his sword, trembled. Research on the celestial—there was only one person capable of something like that.
"You don’t mean…"
"Yes."
Sif spread his arms and nodded.
"Derus Robert. He is my god."
As he spoke Derus’ name his expression turned serious.
It was as if his personality had completely changed.
“So Derus kidnapped you and experimented on you….”
“No, I offered myself willingly. As a sign of my respect for Sir Derus.”
Sif smiled, saying it was his choice.
"Thanks to him, I became the youngest Transcender on the continent. All of this was part of his grand plan."
He clasped his hands together as if worshiping a god.
“Our goal is to completely extract the power from my mother, then go after Raon Zieghart and finally my grandfather.”
Sif declared that he would become the blade capable of killing Glenn, lowering his chin heavily.
"Ha!"
Rimmer scoffed as he looked at Sif.
“You… You just mentioned two people you must never touch.”
"Why do you think I told you all of this?"
Lowering his face, Sif revealed chilling eyes.
"Because all of you will be buried here."
He chuckled as if his demeanor had lightened again and lifted his head.
“Fine. Let’s see what you’ve got.”
Suppressing his trembling chest, Rimmer straightened his back.
"My disciple killed a Transcender, so there’s no reason I can’t do it too."
With his eyes lowered, he moved his sword upward and his hand downward. Summoning the wind and lightning in his mental world, he slowly opened his eyes.
"Sword Field Creation: Song of Wind and Lightning."
As Rimmer activated his sword field, green winds and red lightning surged throughout the cavern, unleashing a tremendous wave of aura.
Each strand of wind and lightning was as powerful as an astral sphere.
"It’s fake."
Sif called Rimmer’s sword field fake and shook his head.
"This time, I’ll destroy your fake sword field."
When he swung his black sword downward, dozens of sword shadows appeared in the air, splitting apart the raging wind and lightning.
“That’s all you’ve got?”
Rimmer scoffed and swung his sword downward. The previously subdued strands of wind and lightning surged back to life.
"Hmph."
Sif pushed off the ground and advanced. He suddenly appeared from the right, as if his footwork incorporated the principle of space sword, and thrust his black sword forward.
A faintly flickering blade—he was using the space sword even in close combat.
‘Blocking it would put me at a disadvantage.’
The space sword was a slash that bypassed the opponent's defense. Blocking it would only cause him to lose momentum, so attacking was the better option.
Wooooong!
Rimmer raised the blade imbued with wind and lightning and struck at Sif’s incoming sword attack.
Jjeoeeeeong!
Although Sif still held the advantage in sheer aura power, thanks to the power of wind and lightning, Rimmer could just barely endure.
“Not bad for something fake.”
Sif let out a mocking laugh and twisted the black sword to the left. The bent, surging black blade carried massive force.
Kuwaaaaaang!
Even though Rimmer defended by wrapping his leaf sword in wind and lightning, his insides churned.
Sif’s strikes, which incorporated the principle of the space sword, punished even the slightest delay in reaction with severe consequences.
"You look like you’re struggling. Meanwhile, I’m still fine."
Every time Sif swung his black sword, the air vibrated, tearing apart the wind and lightning.
As the space sword blended into the swordsmanship he originally possessed, he became increasingly difficult to deal with.
‘I need to close the distance. Staying far away puts me at a disadvantage.’
Even though Sif could use the space sword at close range, it was less effective than at a distance. Fighting at extreme close range, where both lives were on the line, seemed more favorable for Rimmer.
Kuuuuung!
Rimmer trusted in his aura and the body strengthened by his sword field as he closed the gap with Sif.
Jjeoeeoeeong!
In the tight space where even fully swinging a sword was difficult, Rimmer twisted his wrist and thrust the sword of wind and lightning at Sif.
"Close combat doesn’t necessarily mean you have the advantage."
Sif, befitting a Transcender, twisted his waist to avoid the lightning-infused sword. However, he frowned in annoyance.
"But I can still diminish your advantages, even just a little, right?"
Rimmer fought at a distance so close he could hear Sif’s breathing. He wasn’t just relying on swordsmanship and footwork—he used his heightened senses and precise movements to target Sif’s vital points.
"Fine. I’ll fight you the way you want."
As if feeling that backing off would hurt his pride, Sif remained at the same distance and drew spatial swords at close range.
Despite countless strikes of wind and lightning raining down, Sif’s sword remained unwavering.
"Kuh."
Sif twisted his lips into a smirk as he stared at Rimmer.
‘He truly is worthy of the title Sword of Light.’ His swift movements, as if riding the wind, his sharp strikes, clad in lightning, and his unshaken composure, even while standing on the blade’s edge—these were qualities that any warrior would be forced to acknowledge.
However, as the battle dragged on, Sif began to get used to Rimmer’s movements.
"So, it’s here."
When Sif clicked his tongue and swung his sword, the wind split and a thin slice was gouged out of Rimmer’s thigh.
“Try moving a bit faster. I can see it all.”
Sif mocked Rimmer as he unleashed consecutive space slashes.
The second slash was already flying before the first reached its target, a chained series of strikes.
Piiiiiiik!
Rimmer deflected five strikes, but he couldn’t block the sixth. A cut appeared on his waist. It wasn’t a severe wound, but it was a clear sign that he was starting to be pushed back.
“…So what?”
Rimmer, breathing heavily, moved even closer to Sif.
Strength, speed, physical ability, and aura—he was outmatched in all aspects, but his will remained unbroken.
Cheeeeeek!
There was a chilling sensation of stepping into the abyss of death, where even the slightest misstep could result in one’s limbs being torn apart.
‘Even so, I have no choice but to press forward.’
Raon couldn’t fight in his stead, and the head of house couldn’t come to help. He was the only one who could protect Dorian and Aris.
‘How long has it been since I’ve had a fight like this?’
An overwhelming disadvantage. A brutal battle where even a slight misstep could cost him his neck—he hadn’t experienced this in ages.
Yet, strangely enough, he didn’t feel fear or pressure.
On the contrary, he felt exhilarated at the chance to push himself to his limits. Perhaps it was because, as Aris once said, he trusted Raon.
‘I feel at ease.’
As his mind relaxed, his once-heavy body felt as light as if it had grown wings.
The lower, middle, and upper energy centers connected as one, giving him the feeling that his spirit was ascending to heaven.
Ssshhh!
He began to read Sif’s previously difficult-to-evade sword strikes. No, it wasn’t just Sif’s strikes—he could sense the flow of mana throughout the cavern.
Wuuuuung!
Rimmer slipped into Sif’s left side and unleashed a burst of wind and lightning. The red lightning and blue wind converged in his hand, creating an intense wave of energy.
Kuwaaaang!
For the first time, Sif was pushed back and slammed against the wall.
"What is…?"
Sif’s eyes widened in disbelief.
"Haha."
Rimmer laughed. Pure natural mana filled all the mana circuits of his body.
His body and soul felt as if they were soaring into the sky, growing rapidly.
Kuuung! Kuuuuung!
He felt that the realm he had cultivated over his entire life was breaking through the wall of Transcendence that had been blocking his path.
Chiiiiiing!
Dodging Sif’s slash, Rimmer thrust his sword at Sif’s shoulder.
Previously, the attack would have been too slow or weak to land, but with wind and lightning imbued into the blade, he managed to cut Sif’s shoulder.
"What did you do…?"
Sif furrowed his brow and unleashed consecutive slashes.
They were so sharp that a cut to anywhere would be lethal, but the wind was still on Rimmer’s side.
Wooooong!
Rimmer didn’t use his usual footwork, instead, he moved his body by following the green wind, firing the lightning-clad blade at Sif’s heart.
Paaang!
The black sword and the Leaf Sword collided head-on, spreading green sparks throughout the cavern.
Whooosh!
Rimmer enveloped himself in the wind of the Light Wind Style and charged forward.
Despite suffering internal injuries, his body was growing stronger at an incredible rate. It felt as if he was evolving into an invincible body.
‘Transcendence.’
He was certain that he was reaching the Transcendence he had longed for.
But more importantly, he felt something else.
‘I’m enjoying this.’
The instructor of the Fifth Training Ground, the squad leader of the Light Wind squad, the division leader of the Light Wind division—he felt as though he had cast off all those titles like outer layers and reclaimed the freedom of simply being Rimmer.
He felt as though he had become the wind and lightning themselves, capable of going anywhere.
Kuuuuuung!
Once again, Rimmer clashed head-on with Sif.
Although he was still outmatched in strength and speed, he was no longer overwhelmingly disadvantaged.
With the power surging from his three energy centers, it was enough to drive his sword into Sif’s body.
Kwagwagwagwa!
As Rimmer’s strikes grew stronger, veins began to bulge on Sif’s forehead.
"Reaching Transcendence? Someone like you?"
Sif’s entire body turned black with energy. A powerful wave, as if darkness from the earth had risen, surged forth, containing the principle of space sword. He was now fighting at full strength.
‘It’s impossible to block this.’
Rimmer bit his lip and angled the Leaf Sword diagonally.
Crack!
He tried to redirect Sif’s slash toward the ceiling and floor, but the contained power was too immense to deflect.
Jjeo-jeo-jeo-jeok!
The slash, tearing through space, bypassed the Leaf Sword’s blade and shot toward the rear.
‘Wait! Back there!’
Rimmer hastily turned around. The space sword he had tried to deflect was heading straight for Dorian and Aris
‘Ah…’
With his current state, he could stop it. But being so close, the impact would severely affect the ongoing battle.
Of course, before he even considered such worries, his body was already moving toward Dorian.
Jijijijik!
Rimmer shattered the ground beneath him as he leapt forward, throwing himself against the oncoming space sword.
Boom!
Even though he defended with the Leaf Sword, the most powerful impact yet struck his entire body.
"Urgh!"
Rimmer coughed up dark, clotted blood as he bent forward.
"Vice division leader!"
Dorian screamed in anguish, catching Rimmer.
"This is ridiculous."
Sif let out a hollow laugh as he looked at Rimmer.
“If you had continued fighting me, you might have reached Transcendence, yet you throw yourself away for these worms?”
He furrowed his brow as if he couldn’t comprehend it.
"Our division leader…"
Rimmer wiped the blood from his lips and shook his head.
"Made a promise to this punk. That he’d protect her back."
He smiled softly, as if he had no regrets.
"As his subordinate, I can’t let our division leader break his promise."
Rimmer said that was all there was to it and slowly straightened his back.
"You’re a fool."
"Of course, a degenerate who stabbed his own parent couldn’t possibly understand. That’s because I’m talking about the principles of being human."
He had almost reached Transcendence while feeling that freedom, but in the end, the choice he made was to carry the burden of responsibility. It seemed he had truly become human.
'This isn’t good.'
His body felt heavy. The freedom he had felt, as if he had become wind and lightning, had already vanished.
But he couldn’t declare defeat. Now was the time to fight to the very end.
"Fine. Die as a human. I will live on as one of the celestial."
Sif pointed his sword at Rimmer. Within that sword, a massive energy began to writhe, strong enough to bring down this entire dungeon.
"R-run away…"
Aris opened her dry lips, urging him to leave this place, even if he had to go alone.
“My strength is draining even more…”
She shed tears, saying that Sif was only getting stronger.
"I already told you."
Rimmer wiped Aris' tears and shook his head.
"Raon considers you family. I can’t bring sadness to my disciple, who’s only just now come to understand the value of family."
He smiled gently and stepped forward.
"Die."
From Sif's grasp, black and blue streaks of light merged into one. A Transcender slash, painting darkness, surged forward, leaping through space.
Kugugugugu!
Rimmer gripped his trembling sword tightly with both hands and stepped into the pitch-black darkness. Lightning and wind that erased the darkness followed him. His soul infused into his slash, creating a vast light that tore through the darkness.
"I am Zieghart’s Sword of Light!"
